One movie in two libraries

Since I don't want to mess up with tagging due to the current limitation (see Edit), I use two libraries, lets call them

 

1. Parents -> Access for User Parents

 

2. Kids -> Access for User Kids and Parents

 

 

I have some movies which fit in both libraries. I created a symlink between the physical movie in Parents library and a Kids library folder. This is working well, but for the Parents with access on all libraries, the movie shows twice.

 

Anyone with a better setup or solution? I don't want to create a third library for shared movies...

Edit: I played around with the tagging feature and recognized that just the blocking option makes no sense imo. To be effectful, there also needs to be a whitelist option for tags (just show movies with a tag X). In my current case, I would have to go into a hell lot of movies one after another to set the tag since multi tagging is not supported.

Why do you have the Kids movies in a separate library if you want them visible to the parents too?

 

Why not just use a single library and the normal parental controls based on ratings?

 

I have a setup similar to what you have above but it is because there are kids movies I don't want to see in my library so I put them there.

 

Also, there is no need for the symlink for what you are trying to do...

What you are describing is the setup I had before splitting adult and Kids movies. My son also watches some movies which are out of his rating range (e.g. later Harry Potters or Star Wars), but we watch them also. On the other side movies like "The Walk" are rated FSK 6 in Germany, but I don't want them to show in his library. For that reason parental control based on ratings is no option. I first just tried to work with tags (e.g. blocking "Adult" tag on my sons account), but then had to add the tag "Adult" to around 600 movies since setting the tag on library level does not populate to the lover levels in metadata editor. If this would work I just would set the tag on library level and would manually delete it on the few movies I want to be visible for my son. That's why I splitted libraries, Kids Movies for my Son and Adult+Kids for us as long there is no other solution unfortunately...for the few shared movies like Potter I currently have to switch to my account and start it for him.

Just to add to EBR's suggestion above, try this:

1. Create a library containing every movie you want to see.
2. Create a library containing every movie you do not want to see but your kids do.
3. Give your account access to library 1 and your kids account(s) access to libraries 1 and 2.
4. Setup parental controls based on movie ratings to control what your kids have access to.
5. Edit the metadata of movies that don't fit well with your ratings controls to assign them a custom rating.  If your kids' limit is PG but you've got some PG content you don't consider appropriate just set the custom rating to PG-13 and they won't see it.

That's essentially what I did when I had kids young enough to watch movies I didn't want to see at all, under any circumstances.

Man, it's the custom rating I've searched for. Thanks m8  But still a lotta work to do, who wants to have Hail, Ceasar visible for his kids
