TomTiddler 39 Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Not sure if this belongs in server forum, but it seems like the right place. I have an Emby library defined, called "Music", whic points at a shared folder (Windows network style) containing CD albums. This library's content type is "Music". I have a second library called "Vinyl music", content type "Music", pointed at a shared folder called "Vinyl music", containing high bitrate, high bit depth vinyl rips. Imagine my surprise when, from the Emby Windows app (and by the way from the also Emby server app, and the Emby for Roku app, and the IOS app) I choose Folders, Vinyl Music and look at Album Artists view, clicking on an artist shows me multiple albums, many of which I don't even own on vinyl. Ah ha I thought (mistakenly), it's because both Libraries have content labelled "Music" (still an error in my view), however, a simple experiment showed this not to be the case! I created yet another library, this time optimistically called "Vinyl only", and gave it content type "Unset - mixed content". Doesn't matter, Emby still insists on showing me all albums, in any folder or library it knows about for any given Album artist. This is profoundly annoying for audio items that need (or benefit) from a higher quality reproduction chain. Other people using the app shouldn't need to know which of the several copies presented of any given album are of a higher quality. It seems to me the Library mechanism, by allowing me to point different libraries to specific content sources, should be sufficient to accomplish this, however the implementation chooses to place "Content type" above specific location in priority. This seems to me completely the wrong way around.. My final test was to use the web interface of the Emby server app and go direct to the Folder "Vinyl music". Nope, still shows content derived from the folder Music". Sigh. This case is especially wrong, as you can no doubt see. I have a similar "separation vi libraries" structure for DVD's, Blurays, and .mkv's, all of which are identified as having content type "Movies" and yet Emby displays no similar confusion about which is which, so it seems obvious that this has something to do with the way music is organised. Any chance of this being taken seriously?
Luke 42085 Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Hi, I really don't see a problem here. If I have music libraries A and B, and artist X has albums in both libraries, then when I click on the artist X I would expect to see all albums for that artist. It sounds like what you want to do is hide the entire library from certain users. For example, if you have user Z and you don't want that person to see any content from music library B, then you can configure this under user access. Check out our wiki on content access: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Content%20Access Does this answer your question?
TomTiddler 39 Posted April 26, 2016 Author Posted April 26, 2016 I guess we see things differently Luke. If I have two music libraries A and B, then when I look specifically at Library A, I do not expect to see anything from library B. I'm sure if our examples were two libraries labelled "Movies for my mother" and " Nasty Pornography", it would be more obvious that separation at the library level is fairly important . Of course, This doesn't happen with movies, only with music.
Solution Luke 42085 Posted April 26, 2016 Solution Posted April 26, 2016 It will happen with two movie libraries. If you click on an actor, you'll see all movies for that actor, no matter where they come from. Actors and artists aren't really library items, they're more like shared attributes that are attached to media files. Unfortunately this is one of those situations where we have to pick one way or the other, and no matter which way we choose someone is bound to be unhappy, and in this case, I apologize that it hasn't gone in your favor. I really don't think your above example is a realistic scenario though, because how many actors really cross-over between pornography and normal movies. If you don't want your mother to see any of the pornography content, then you can just block the pornography library from her user account and then she'll never see any of it, including on the actor screen. (if she does, then this is an issue that needs to be resolved). 1
TomTiddler 39 Posted April 26, 2016 Author Posted April 26, 2016 I could probably name a couple, but it might expose my viewing habits! I get your point, and in reality it's a small slightly annoying point. Given how wonderful the product and (especially) the support is, I can live with it. Thanx for the (as always) prompt, helpful, and comprehensible response(s). 1
