majorsl 23 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Hi all, I have an existing Kodi setup and I'm playing with Emby as a replacement for the built-in media manager, also to replace different and separate streaming solutions to both iOS and Android. I've backed up my Kodi database and settings and installed Emby. I'm very confused. I have NFS sources in my existing Kodi Video library that go directly to my server. I assume those are removed in favor of Emby's sources in the Videos->Files sections? If so, I don't see my Movies or TV Shows I added within Emby by browsing under "Add Videos..." I also did path substitutions within Emby for my NFS shares so they'd playback directly with Kodi, assuming I figure this out. Is there a thread that has more information? On the Emby for Kodi page I tried to click the "LEARN MORE" button, but the link goes to a "topic not found" message.
Angelblue05 4132 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 (edited) Thanks for pointing out the link is dead. Here you go: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/plugin.video.emby/wiki Note only the setup and settings section are up to date, feel free to ask any questions. Check the youtube video at the top of the link provided to get a better idea (note this is an old version but still relevant). Best start Kodi with a clean slate, remove all existing sources manually (we do not use sources). This will be improved in the future and added as part of the initial setup. The way this work is the add-on imports your Emby library into Kodi database, you don't need to do anything but wait for the initial sync process to finish (it only happens once). The add-on takes care of everything pretty much. All you need to worry about is set up your home screen. Playlists and video nodes are automatically created after your Emby views, so you just need to point your home screen shortcuts to video add-ons > emby > Emby view shortcut. majorsl 23 Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 I get it now. Thanks! I see that it uses the built in TV Shows and Movies which is nice. For the other shortcuts, I guess I'll hunt around for a skin similar to Confluence which everyone in the house is used to. I'm pretty impressed how it "just worked" and considering I have 4 Kodi clients in the house, this could be quite a time-saver for setups when things change. I'm running Emby on OS X server and, like Linux, it isn't very friendly when trying to see if a client is connected to NFS. I want to be sure my path substitution is working, is there a way to tell in Emby if a client is being used, or conversely if my Kodi client is being streamed/transcoded to? 1
Angelblue05 4132 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 (edited) While you are playing the content in Kodi, check your Emby dashboard > active** devices. Mouseover the Kodi device, it will tell you if it's direct playing, direct streaming or transcoding. Edited February 23, 2016 by Angelblue05

Solution majorsl 23 Posted February 27, 2016 Author Solution Posted February 27, 2016 (edited) While you are playing the content in Kodi, check your Emby dashboard > active** devices. Mouseover the Kodi device, it will tell you if it's direct playing, direct streaming or transcoding. I'm having an issue with this and a Kodi client. One one machine, it works as expected and as you described. On another, it shows up as seen in the Active Devices, but I don't get the thumbnail image of it or any information on mouse-over. Playback, browsing, and Kodi communicating with Emby otherwise seems to work. EDIT: disregard, sorry. I deleted it out of Emby's Devices and rebooted the Kodi machine. When it re-appeared it displayed as expected. Edited February 27, 2016 by majorsl 1
