Luke 42083 Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Hi, welcome. Try disabling internet explorer enhanced security. 2
Ronski 7 Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Worked for me, but haven't had to do this in the past - I'm using WHS2011
ZeroGee 1 Posted February 15, 2016 Author Posted February 15, 2016 Hi @@Luke, Many thanks for your suggestion. However, it seems that enhanced security is only enabled on server editions. The machine in question is running Win 10 Pro. The nearest setting I found in this edition was "enhanced protected mode", which was already off. Is it possible my firewall/security software (N360) is giving problems?

Pressing on the "Details" button gives the info in the attached txt document. OS is Win10 Pro 32-bit. Any help welcomed. I run Windows 10 X64 on the computer I host my Emby Server, I haven't had this problem though. I do, however, have some other legacy applications that need some "pampering" to allow them to run on windows 10. I would recommend: 1. checking User account control (control panel (set view by: to large icons)>users>change user account control settings). set the bar all the way to the bottom, then reboot. 2. set the Emby Server application to run as an administrator. to do this right click the shortcut (preferably from your desktop as the start menu doesn't let you access the drop-down menu item you need)>select properties> then select the Compatibility tab> select "run this program as an administrator". 3. often 3rd party Ant-virus/firewall/protection applications block applications from updating themselves automatically. try turning these protection applications off one at a time to see what application or feature is causing the problem, then go to their support site and research how to allow the activity.
ZeroGee 1 Posted February 19, 2016 Author Posted February 19, 2016 Hi @@Tur0k, Thanks for your suggestion. I set the user account control to "off" as you suggested, and made sure to run the installer as Admin (I usually do anyway). Even after I uninstalled Norton (and turned of Windows Firewall and Windows Defender, just to be sure) it still failed with the same result. Appreciate your help. Cheers
Happy2Play 9783 Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 (edited) What server version are you currently on? Since this is an "Update" failure, not ideal but you can download the zip and manually replace the previous system folder with the new one. Just rename the original system folder as .old and drop in new system folder. %appdata%\Emby-Server https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/releases/download/3.0.5871/emby.windows.zip Edited February 19, 2016 by Happy2Play
ZeroGee 1 Posted February 19, 2016 Author Posted February 19, 2016 Hi @@Happy2Play, Currently running 3.0.5781.1, when I put the original post up I was trying to use the updater for 3.0.5818.0, but downloaded & tried the most recent one earlier today (for 3.0.5871.0) with the same results. I'll follow up on your advice about directly getting the zip in the next little while, & let you know how I go. Ta! Cheers
diaz1510 154 Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 I am currently having the same issue. Server is running on Win10 Pro x64. I've never had to make any changes to any user accounts or internet explorer settings (I'm using Firefox, anyway). Nothing has changed since the last few Emby updates I've done with my firewall/antivirus, so not sure why this isn't working. I'm currently on 5818 and trying to install the latest stable version. I've re-downloaded the setup file and also rebooted but still same issue.

Just rename the original system folder as .old and drop in new system folder. %appdata%\Emby-Server https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/releases/download/3.0.5871/emby.windows.zip OK, I just tried this but the MediaBrowser.ServerApplication.exe that is packaged with this zip has a zero file size and when I try to open the emby server through the start menu, it says the shortcut doesn't exist anymore. As for opening emby directly from that .xe, it still doesn't work, saying the PC can't open the app

Emby server is up and running Just FYI, in case this happens to others, this installation of Emby Server took longer than usual to download (and quite possibly may have just been something on my end), but it took so long (like 15 minutes) that the progress bar looked like it wasn't moving and I almost canceled out of the installation to try it again, luckily right before I hit the cancel button I saw it move ever so slightly...so I just went and got some coffee and let it do it's thing

Excellent! Ran across some problems with my 3rd party firewall/antivirus, Norton 360, so it took me a couple of failed attempts while I shut bits of N360 off for a while. But once that was out of the way the install worked. There's now a little .bat file on my desktop names "Clean MB Install Cache" waiting for the next update... Many thanks for you help. Thanks also to others who made suggestions. Cheers 1
