mhuck0625 1 Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 I'm finally using my server more and more and loving it more and more. The only thing i dont have set up yet is live tv streaming/recording. I have an All in Wonder USB TV tuner that i have been able to get installed on my windows server 2008 machine. The OS sees it so i assume/hope i can use it for Emby. My question is where do i go from here. From what i have researched it appears that there is a monthly cost involved in tv streaming..? Just kinda lost at this point. Any help is appreciated!
legallink 187 Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Emby, currently I believe, only supports tuners that broadcast in DLNA. Right now, as far as I am aware, that is limited to the HDHR tuners and does not include those lovely All in Wonder beasts.
mhuck0625 1 Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 i was afraid you might say something like that. So what is the best solution for a cheapo like myself haha. I dont need anything special, i just want to be able to watch my live tv from my media server and have the option to record while im at work or away. Thanks for the reply!
JeremyFr79 228 Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Best solution would be to setup a seperate box running windows 7 or 8 with media center, and then use the ServerWMC plugin to feed the TV into Emby.
Solution mellomade 141 Posted January 28, 2016 Solution Posted January 28, 2016 Just get yourself one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815345015 And you can watch/record OTA with Emby. The only recurring cost would be $25/yr for a Schedules Direct account (guide data). 1
mhuck0625 1 Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I am going to try setting up a VM on my server and run windows 7 with media center and see how that does. If nothing else ill try one of the HDHR boxes.
CFC 25 Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Is it possible to use the native Emby TV implementation, while at the same time pulling guide information using serverWMC? I'm thinking of upgrading from the old school HDHR tuner to a DLNA capable one. CFC

CFC 25 Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 No. Thanks Luke, but can they co-exist if I get a Schedule Direct sub? I'd like to have serverWMC to keep access to my non-protected cable channels - I have a Ceton tuner for those. CFC
mhuck0625 1 Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 I guess i should add that i dont have cable, these would just be over the air channels...not sure if that makes a difference.
Luke 42083 Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 You can use multiple live tv services side by side but they are all independent of each other, meaning you can't mix and match tuners from one, guide data from the other, etc.
