Guest Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Hi all, I am having a problem with subtitles under Emby Version 3.0.5781.0, using the webbrowser Firefox 42.0. I have two .mp4 movies and both play with the webbrowser and both have at least one subtitle in .srt format. The first movie is not transcoded and subtitles work fine. The second movie requires transcoding and does not show the subtitle. The subtitle can be selected, but it is not displayed. If I use the emby app, subtitles show in both cases. If I use the emby app to cast to chromecast, subtitles also show. If I use the emby app to cast to firefox, the behavior is the same as with the webbrowser. I could generate log file for every kind of behavior. Does anybody have a clue what might be happening and what logs would need to be checked?
Solution Luke 42077 Posted November 7, 2015 Solution Posted November 7, 2015 Unfortunately this is a bug recently introduced in Firefox's text tracks implementation. If this is a problem I would suggest Chrome for now. We'll give it some time and then if it doesn't look like it's getting fixed soon we'll figure out a contingency.
Guest Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 An update: In firefox 43.0.4 the subtitles also work for transcoded files. So that is fixed. I have two small questions related to substitles which are probably standard knowledge: * If I select a subtitle and then switch to a different time in the same playbacK I have to reselect the subtitle, how come? * Is there an easy way to apply a time shift to a subtitle that is not synchronized with the content?
Luke 42077 Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 For this If I select a subtitle and then switch to a different time in the same playbacK I have to reselect the subtitle, how come? Please supply more information, including walking me through an example. Thanks.
Guest Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 The problem occurs in playback under Firefox and only for transcoded files. Normally when you play a file a select a subtitle you, the subtitle still shows if you skip to another time in the playback. For transcoded files under firefox this is not the case. A subtitle can be selected and is shown on screen. However, when I skip to a different moment in time the subtitle no longer shows. I have to reselect the subtitle from the subtitle menu and after that it shows the subtitle again.
Luke 42077 Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Hi, I'm not able to reproduce this. I tested and it worked perfectly. I would make sure you're running the latest version of Emby Server and the Firefox browser. If the issue still persists then please provide the info requested here: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/739-how-to-report-a-problem/ Thanks.
Guest Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 The stable version of Emby that I run is Version 3.0.5821.0. It should be kept up to date using a repository. I run CentOS 7. I last tested on firefox and I still have the same problem: * For a transcoded file I can select a subtitle track. * When I skip to a different time during the same playback, the subtitle is gone. And I have to reselect the subtitle track. Attached is a transcoding log from a playback in which the problem occurred. And also part of the server log. I start playback around 23:10. If I look at the log then I suspect the problem arises due to a bad connection: I see that the connection is lost during playback, although I do experience this. But this might still cause the problems with the subtitles. I hope this information is of any help. Transcode.log Server.log
Luke 42077 Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Ok, I cannot reproduce it using beta code, so please try again after the next release. Thanks.
Guest Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 (edited) In release 3.0.5870.0 I still experience the same problem. Edited February 15, 2016 by hvdbrand
nague 5 Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Same issue with Chrome for any transcoding / copying mkv contents, regardless of the subtitle type (internal ou external): after seeking, I have to re-select subtitle (the switch comes back to "OFF"). The issue is not present for mp4 contents, with external subtitles.
Guest Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I have noticed that I get errors during playback. Attached is part of the server log which shows the error. After the error, the playback just continues. nague, do you also see an error? Anybody got a clue of what kind of error this is? server_part.txt
