Direct Streaming?

Lately (at least that ive noticed...) whenever i play movies in Emby Theater, it shows that it is direct streaming (viewed through the server dashboard via web interface).

 

I would have expected it be direct play (not stream) as the movie is shared for everyone and I can access it easily through file explorer.

 

Am I missing something? or misunderstanding.

You probably haven't setup Path substitution such that the MBT machine can see the movie.

@@ebr That is correct I have not setup path substitution. But the computer with MBT can freely browse \\server\movies$ so MBT should see it directly as well no? My understanding is I didn't need path substitution if the folder share was accessible by the computer with MBT (no login required)

 

am I understanding wrong?

If you setup the library locations using the UNC path AND the user running MBT has access to that path then that is how it should work.

 

An MBT log from when you play something back would probably confirm what is happening.

I double checked and realized a change to my server has caused the issue. It's all working correctly not.
