Does anyone know what Notifications/New Content give you. I'm trying to get notifications emailed out on new movies I had. After some struggle I've gotten the email thing to happen. However new content sometimes sends out new movies added but not always. One strange thing it did this morning was send out the new "People" as content b/c of a movie I added yesterday. These people were only associated to the specific movie added but I don't know why people would be content.  When I first did this I also think I remember seeing new production companies come out as well.

This is something I also noticed lately. I used to have notification for new media added it now I'm getting someone name of actor and more. On day I got the notification for more than 1000 item and added to the library ??!? . I look through option I couldn't find an option for actors/director etc...

Well my plugin will only email new movies, music and TV series names with their primary image to the list of users in which you decide who.

The type of media can be customized to only email one or three of the types you decide.

The email layout mimics the web server interface with fonts and colour schemes.

@@chef. Will look into that but I still don't get why the notifications work this way at all. An actor to be is not media content. A production studio is not media content. Maybe I'm wrong. If this is the way it is intended, I pity the person who turns on notifications then starts a new emby server. They will get thousands of emails and will have limited ability to wade through any of it.

Technically it is media content. In the API, media content spans a variety of things. Images, albums, artists, Audio, Movie, Series, Seasons, and episode info all gets returned.

Each actor has an entire folder dedicated to them with all the information that can be retrieved from the internet, just like another media item.

Actors are treated like media items.

In the API it is up to the client to sift through the information and gather what is relevant.

The email setup you are using now is not filtering enough of the information and it is returning all media items (this would include actors and artist information).

It makes sense from a developers point of view to set it up this way, but it is also up to the developer to allow for customization for the user to sift unwanted info from the server.

This is also why my plugin will better suit your needs.

I guess it's a recent modification because it didn't used to be like that. But I also don't see the point for viewer to know that there's 200 new media added (actors or studio) ?

I respect this direction but I think this should be an option of what kind of media we would like to be notified :)

I had the notification on to let know my folk that "movie name" is now available on my emby server.

I will definitely wait for your plugin :) since this is exactly what I'm looking for.

Thx !

it was just an oversight and they should all be removed from notifications.

Thx Luke.

I thought it was just a but wasn't too sure. I was getting way too much notification lol.

this should be resolved in a future release :) I'm currently using latest beta.

I got the plugin tied nicely into the library Manager Interface. So it knows what is added and what is removed from the file system.

I use the .net mail classes to build an email and show an HTML interface that mimics the server.

Basic fonts and images placement.

I'll make it customizable so your emails will be automatic, but not to flood recipients inbox.

The only thing is that the more images that are sent through email, the high the chance that it will be pegged as spam mail. So, the user will have to give a heads up to the recipients.

Just I case anyone was still interested in this.

I have finished the HTML base to the email, and the plugin sends quite a nice looking mimic of the server.

The color match quite well, the logos look good and the primary images for new media look splendid in the email.

The plugin will be called "Emby EPK" Electronic Press Kit.

I set it up like a Press Release for a rock band, only it is about new media on your server.

I'll just pat myself on the back incase no one is actually going to read this entry... Lol!

Cool.

hopefully you are using the notification interface just like the other notification plugins

I am subscribed to the LibraryManager events to gather new media info and also The Notification interface.

Still the "System.Mail" namespace seemed to allow me to send the .net generated HTML I need to build the notification.

Is the INotification interface tied into that namespace for Windows @@Luke?

just look at the source code for any of the notification plugins in our plugins repo. you don't have to subscribe to anything.

Hmm, there is one problem I have come across. I get very generic media type options: Book/audio/video/Image.

The problem I for see right now is that, if the plugin is set to auto-email people, I still have to limit what is emailed out. For instance your RSS downloads a dirty movie because it has a satirical name close to what you are monitoring. The next thing you know, your mother in law is getting an email to tell he she should check out what's new on the Emby Connect!

This is strictly a worst case senario, this didn't happen to me or anything...

Also, I think I finally understand what Luke was asking about the notification interface. Notify the user that there was a blast of emails for new media.

yea i think you will be fine. nobody has complained about the current notification system

Only problem with current notification email is that we don't have more informations when we add multiple media at the same time.

I'd like to receive email with name for each media added.

This is an example of what is emailed out to your contact list in the plugin. Any suggestions as to layout are welcome. Currently this is just a quick template to get color, images, and text in place.

Also, it is possible to set a time of Day to blast emails to your users, so it would collect all the new titles since the last email blast and put them in a list. Showing them all at once.

Or, blast each new item.

Also, No new titles = no email blast.

The current email plugin is great! I just wanted to try and build one too. For no particular reason other then to see how the code is written. :)

It is the first time I have ever tried to have one type of code (vb.net) write another type of code (HTML) dynamically.

Pretty cool.
