Collection.xml vs Folder.xml

On my server in some directories I have both the Files: "Collection.xml" and "Folder.xml".

 

Most of the files "Collection.xml" are empty since were added by MCM, but some of them aren't. I have noted that if I update the metadata information in MB3 for the corresponding folder. The file "Collection.xml" is updated, viceversa if the file collection is empty and I update the metadata information in MB3 the file "Folder.xml" is updated. I'd like to move to the "Collection.xml" structure, but I don't have understood how these file could be generate in MB3. My understanding is if these file already exists and aren't empty MB3 is able to use it viceversa not. Could you explain the usage ?

i think you are mcm is possibly mis-using them.

 

collection.xml is only used for boxsets. if a folder is not a boxset, the file will have no impact. folder.xml is used for generic folders that don't have any special type. i would tell mcm to stop saving the files.
