Never_More 19 Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 I've tried all the ways I can think of to try and access my server from my daughters computer (in another town) and have hit a wall - I tried to change her access ip to my homes servers incoming i.p. i.e. the ip address they I use to connect to my server with my phone - to me it would seem to be easy to fix but I'm at a stand still with this - My and her internet is fast enough to handle the data needed to support the streaming . her and my computer is running emby for windows . I'm running the server program from where all the movies are and have no problem connecting with all my equipment. i.e. phone and internal computers .. but not able to get her or my laptop to connect from a far.. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated -
yardameus 221 Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 I'm not real familiar with this either, but I'd check your router to make sure the port is open to allow incoming connections, most likely to 8096 (refer to the web client dashboard for the remote access address) and also check out the wiki page https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki particularly the users section. Many others will be more help than I, but maybe this will help you in the right direction. 1
Solution shaefurr 1340 Posted June 13, 2015 Solution Posted June 13, 2015 (edited) There's a few things required to make sure external connections work properly. 1. Use the right WAN IP, http://www.whatsmyip.org/ on the server machine will give you that. Or alternatively use the Connect feature or a dynamic DNS service such as http://www.noip.com/ or http://dyn.com/dns/ 2. Use a static LAN IP for your server, this will ensure if you setup port forwarding, your servers IP will not change and require you to set up port forwarding again. Alternatively use a regular dynamic IP and just setup a DHCP reservation. Guide for that here 3. Make sure the ports are forwarded correctly. If your setup is server > modem > internet, you would just need to forward ports (8096 and 8945 by default) on the modem to the LAN IP of the server. If your setup is more involved, such as server > router > modem > internet, you would need to forward 8096 and 8945 on the router to the LAN IP of the server. Then forward 8096 and 8945 on the modem to the LAN IP of the router. 4. Allow emby through any firewalls you might have, Norton, Avast, McAfee etc. Once all these are completed, on the server machine go to http://www.canyouseeme.org/, type in 8096 for the port and click check port, if its a success you should be able to access the server from any external location. If it fails to see the open port, check your settings again as listed above. A great tutorial site for setting up port forwarding on routers/modems is http://portforward.com/, you can search for your modem/router make and model and use the guide for "media browser" for a step by step with pictures walkthrough on setting up port forwarding. Hope this helps. Edited June 13, 2015 by shaefurr 5
CBers 7450 Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 You could always try Emby Connect and invite your daughter to access your server. Then she connect to the Emby Connect on her PC, using Emby Classic I guess, and connect to your server.. 3
