Orionas21 4 Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago I have debloaded and remove unessary services and apps in my htpc. Including Microsoft store. Where can i get the executable file .exe of the new app or the .msi to install it? Why it is only available through store??? Emby Theater was available also in the Git to download both for x32 and x64.
Luke 43254 Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Hi, the store makes it easy to distribute and auto-update as it handles all of that for us. Given enough demand, we can always look at making it available for sideloading.
softworkz 5421 Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago The sync feature would have to be removed >> it would be a different app >> different app means it would be installed to a different location >> could be installed parallel to the store app >> users would end up having both side-by-side >> maximum confusion >> support trouble >> users would begin to have different versions when updating is manually >> support nightmare
howllor 50 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago OP, you could use docker to install it without using the Microsoft store

howllor 50 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Oh i missed which section this was in, i thought this was for the server. 1

Emby Theater was also "portable" >> could be installed parallel to the store app --> Why this is an issue??? >> users would end up having both side-by-side --> Support in most of the cases suggested to sideload bet version in order to test if the problems are resolved. >> maximum confusion --> NOT >> support trouble --> NOT >> users would begin to have different versions when updating is manually --> Embend the update mechanism of the server app >> support nightmare --> Organize better... So in overall you are saying that i need to deliver the keys of my pc to Microsoft and enable again 15 garbage services in order to keep up to date the EMBY app. In case of Store outage i will not be able to update or install the EMBY app. Hmmmm it make sense....

5 minutes ago, Orionas21 said: and enable again 15 garbage services Which 15 services? Did youi disable Windows Update as well? Otherwise, 15 is not plausible. I have disabled quitte a number of Windows services myself, and the store is not the fat cow in that picture. Also, the store installation path is the most secure path for receiving updates. Every release is scanned and checked in countless ways and insttallation runs without elevation (it's per-user only). If you want to be concerned about something, you should rather look at how browsers (like Chrome, Edge) are updating themselves: They install "elevation" services (and triggerable scheduled tasks with elevation), which means that via browser update they get full admin access to your machine at any time they want. The MS store is pretty harmless in comparison to the real bad things that they are doing. You're right to be cautious in general, but the store is a wrong focus for going crazy about, especially with the changes in recent years. Originally, it was a core element of their "Windows everywhere" strategy, trying to become like Android with Windows Phone, UWP (Unversal Windows) and the hundreds of app permissions and required grants for every little thing - but all this is long gone. You can't buy any music or videos from the store, there are no more ad promotions, you can no longer earn money from apps showing ads (like on Android, etc.), restrictions have been lifted, certification has been downscaled and meanwhile, the Microsoft Store is more like a kind of "Windows Update" for apps than what youi appear to be thinking about it. You don't need to believe what I'm saying. Look deeper and deeper for your self, then you'll see whether it's really the way how you want to believe it would be.
Orionas21 4 Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago All of them have been removed. I don't have any browser installed in my htpc. Yes also windows updates have been disabled along with many other services, traking and other staff. It has the lates bios, drivers and since everything is working as expected every update has been stopeed from services and Scheduled tasks. The htpc is in closed environemt and doesn't even have access to internet. Only to internal lan. For this reason and many more i have requested the executable... Â

Then you cannot have been using the legacy app - it doesn't even work without internet connection. Â 10 minutes ago, Orionas21 said: Yes also windows updates have been disabled Then the app might not work properly anyway. It's built using the MS App SDK which has turned out to be a source of trouble, especially on earlier Windows versions. When you are not receiving and installing updates for Windows, you might see issues anyway (no matter where our app comes from). Also, it requires a specific version of the WinAppSDK runtime, which won't install with everything disabled. So, in your case, it's not really about from where the app gets installed, but rather that your system - set up like this - is likely not suitable to run the app. You can try for yourself. There's a page which allows you to download MSIX packages from the MS Store - just search for "ms store download msix" or similar and you'll find it. You can try, but I don't think it will install on your system like that..
Orionas21 4 Posted 58 minutes ago Author Posted 58 minutes ago (edited) The old app is working as expected. No intenet is needed. All info is being retrieved and saved in server locally (nfo, covers, etc). I dont want to try installing anything else. I want to try EMBY directly. The new look and intro is amazing and with autostart enabled is exactly what i wanted (tested in my laptop). So can you please provide me the executable file in order to test if it is working and if anything in addition is wanted i will install on demand bases. Edited 58 minutes ago by Orionas21

That's a first I've ever heard. Correct. It can't work. It doesn't have the UI code included. It loads it from tv.emby.media. It does caching though. When there's no internet, it can run from cache, don't know though, how long i can last in that state. 1

Orionas21 4 Posted 20 minutes ago Author Posted 20 minutes ago This is not the actuall installer. This exe is trying through M Store to download and install the actuall app.
softworkz 5421 Posted 13 minutes ago Posted 13 minutes ago There is no other executable. The setup is an MSIX. Above I hinted you at how to download the ones from the store, but further above I also explained why it won't work.
Orionas21 4 Posted 6 minutes ago Author Posted 6 minutes ago I have already found the msixbundle. Along with some dependencies VClib, .Net, UI.Xaml. But it is not fair to have all this search and downloads etc. It should be provided directly from the EMBY site in an executable format.
