Kowcop 0 Posted Monday at 07:09 AM Posted Monday at 07:09 AM (edited) I split my UHD movies from HD (different folders) Before this release, the home screen 'Latest Media' section would treat multi-version movies as a single entity, but as of 4.10.0.40, the multiple versions are split. They require their own poster, and they also have their own metadata.. ie the UHD version 'date added' field is different to the HD version. So for example, if I have two movies /mnt/movies/UHD/movie1.mkv /mnt/movies/HD/movie1.mkv The home screen now sees them as two separate movies. If I add a UHD version to a movie that already had a HD version, the latest movies section on the home shows the UHD as 'new'. Previously it respected the original HD version's date added metadata I am just wondering if this is by design, as it has broken a lot It 'feels' like when using the multiple versions, the previous version of Emby used the originaly added versions metadata, where this version now uses individual metadata Edited Monday at 07:11 AM by Kowcop added line at the end
Luke 43109 Posted Monday at 07:51 AM Posted Monday at 07:51 AM @Kowcop HI there, can you please provide a specific example? How to Report a Problem Are you sure they're actually joined? Thanks !
Kowcop 0 Posted Monday at 08:10 AM Author Posted Monday at 08:10 AM I can give you some more info, but I suspect you have fixed the functionality of a previous bug that I was leveraging. I suspect this because Movies acted differently to TV Series (TV series works like Movies has changed to). I can spell it out for you like this Previous Version : In 2025, I add a movie /mnt/movies/HD/Space Movie (1977)/Space Movie (1977) - HD.mkv. I also add poster.jpg in the same folder I add another 50 movies or so In 2026, I add a movie /mnt/movies/UHD/Space Movie (1977)/Space Movie (1977) - 4K.mkv (no poster in this folder) Home screen doesn't show 'Space Movie' in Latest Releases as the original 'Space Movie' was added last year and it doesn't think anything has changed Everything works happily, movies are joined as when I got to the play screen, they both show as options I can select from the version dropdown. Current Version : Today after I install 4.10.0.40, recent additions of UHD movies that had an older 'HD' version show in 'Latest <Library>' section on the homepage, and they all have no poster showing. They are just black boxes. If I right click one of these and view metadata, it shows it is the UHD version in the path at the top. If I add a poster to the UHD movie folder and scan files, the poster then appears So it is basically seeing each version in updates where previously it used the original versions metadata on the home page in Latest <Library> Unless this is identified as a bug, I just wrote a bash file which updated the 'dateadded' metadata field to be the same as 'release date'. If you would like a suggestion, it would be handy to allow the user to change the field used in 'Latest Releases' to be 'Release Date'

"Latest Releases" already does this. It is "Latest Media" that uses the Emby added date. In the library in question, what is this set to?
Luke 43109 Posted Monday at 06:52 PM Posted Monday at 06:52 PM Quote Home screen doesn't show 'Space Movie' in Latest Releases as the original 'Space Movie' was added last year and it doesn't think anything has changed Latest Releases is based on release date info, not date added. Latest media is based on date added.
Luke 43109 Posted Monday at 06:52 PM Posted Monday at 06:52 PM Quote In 2025, I add a movie /mnt/movies/HD/Space Movie (1977)/Space Movie (1977) - HD.mkv. Kowcop 0 Posted Monday at 08:06 PM Author Posted Monday at 08:06 PM (edited) Yes they are in the same library .. I have a Library called Sci-Fi, and I add the two folders, one from UHD and one from HD. I do this so I can add only the HD folders to users with external access (so I am not transcoding unnecessarily).. The movies are still joined. The easiest way to replicate this is to install the old version, create two folders, one called HD and one called UHD Add them both to a library In the HD folder, add a movie folder which includes the movie like 'moviename - HD.mkv or mp4', a poster.jpg and the do a file scan. View the result which should be as expected Edit the metadata and make the date added 2025 sometime Add a second movie using above process, but make the date added metadata to be sometime in early 2026 Add a second version of the first movie you added to the UHD folder, 'moviename - 4K.mkv or mp4', but no poster and do a filescan What you will notice is that the movie without the poster still has a poster showing in Latest <Library> on the homepage, you will see it is indeed joined as you can see it in the dropdown, but you will also see that it is still 'older' in the latest section.. ie. it hasnt detected the UHD as being newer than the second movie that had the 2026 date Then upgrade to the newest version, you will now see the 4K version sitting to the left on the homepage (Latest), and it will have no poster. But seriously, if this is how it 'should' work, I would prefer to work around it then have someone spend time on it. Edited Monday at 08:08 PM by Kowcop fix typo

When someone is looking at my library, I would like them to see the latest (newest) movies out, not some random 1980s movie I thought I might want to watch one day or something I found a better copy of. It is just a suggestion
Luke 43109 Posted Monday at 08:23 PM Posted Monday at 08:23 PM Can you show screenshot examples to demonstrate your issue?

Unless I am mistaken, 'Recently Released Movies' or 'Recently Released Episodes' is across the all libraries and combined into a single stream, where 'Latest Media' is per library. Movies is a bit problematic for me as I have a library for each genre. That said, it could be solved by adding a new item to your dropdown 'Date Added behaviour for new content' to be 'Date Released'. You already have that date in the database, so I am just assuming you can just pass that to whatever you are using for sort order Edited 4 hours ago by Kowcop typo

The latest release lets you pick what libraries go into it.

Kowcop 0 Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago Here are some screenshots... This is just one library. The structure is like this movies - HD - Disaster - Movie (year) - movie (year) - HD.mkv - poster.jpg - UHD - Disaster - Movie (year) - movie (year) - 4K-HDR.mkv Then I have a library Disaster and I add the /HD/Disaster and /UHD/Disaster to it It joins the files perfectly as shown in join.png I have since added a few 4K movies to my library, and after the upgrade (as shown in 4.10.png), it now has the new 4K files showing as latest additions and no poster. If I add a poster to the folder and scan files, they appear fine In summary, 4.10 treats the newly added 4K files as their own entry in 'Latest' where in 4.9 they were ignored and seen as an addition to the original HD version. They are still joined, just the metadata seems to be reflected. As mentioned, I think I have been leveraging a previous bug and I honestly dont care if you just accept this is how it should be as I will work around it, I am just pointing out this upgrade changed things.
