Why did emby decide to create phantom ghost duplicates of my movies?

So here's something weird. For some unknown reason, out of nowhere, my emby has decided to list duplicate versions for one of my movie libraries. The movie folders in that library do not have duplicates. There is only 1 media file per movie folder in that library. Yet for some reason emby has decided to show 2 versions of the same file in its interface. Both versions have the exact same file name in the emby interface.

I can see in the metadata viewer that there is indeed duplicate entries for the affected movies. How or why they suddenly appeared one day, I have no idea. I tried re-scanning the library and refreshing the metadata to fix it, but nothing changed. I suppose I could manually delete them in the metadata interface. But 1. who the hell wants to do that? and 2. what's to stop it from happening again?

Does anyone know what's going on or how to fix this?

I would try removing the movie from your storrage.

Do a library scan, when that's done.

Add it back, scan and see if that helps.

If it does not help then dev's will need logs.

There are about 100 or so files affected. I suppose I could move them and re-add them that way. See if that fixes the issue.

I never touched that particular setting. Was that something introduced recently in the latest update? I checked it and it was set to what it shows in your pic. So I assume that is the default setting.

Anywho, in the end the only way to fix the problem was the to delete the entire library and recreate it. No more phantom duplicates.

Well, if you do actually have dups and that setting is set to what I showed, then they will come back...

As I said, I don't have dupes. Emby, for some unknown reason, thought I had dupes. But I never had dupes. 

I do have other libraries that were unaffected by this issue. So I can only assume that somehow the database for this particular library got corrupted somehow.

If you scroll down what is the directory path on your duplicates? exactly the same also?

Emby is great at finding duplicates I never knew I had.
