jmassaro87 28 Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago (edited) Is the 418play still a good server option? as we move further into the mkv file universe for UHD/4K, and being on an AppleTV will this thing still handle the transcoding nicely? I know there is no mkv support for atv. I ask because lately we have been having some intermittent issues with some files playing then going black every 5 minutes. ATV and 416play are hardwired, so I don’t believe it to be network related as another file will play just fine. I don’t have a log at the moment, but will grab one then next time it happens. also was following the Atrium chat, is that something that could help? Or if it’s still a potentially subpar server, won’t help anything? Edited 16 hours ago by jmassaro87
FrostByte 5603 Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I used to have a 418play. It was okay for running Emby server if you didn't transcode big 4K files. I don't transcode though so really all it did for me was pass media which it did fine with. My issue was with space. The 4 bays (3 with 1 raid drive) quickly filled up once I started replacing media with 4K versions and the 418play doesn't support an expansion cabinet. Why a 418play? That is getting old and there are newer, better boxes out now. 1
