4K HEVC shows as 1080p, think I can't find any setup to fix?

No the entire original file is transmitted. There’s no separation of audio and video.

Never said your hardware is too weak and there’s nothing wrong with having an option that makes users happy. I was just pointing out that what actually happens under the hood is not very different.

Because there are some good points and things to take care of.

So to my question.

If I have understood this right, I need to have my Shield set to 4K in the GUI. To be certain I can watch 4K in 4K?
For most streaming (NRK, HBO, Disney+ etc), I don't need 4K. So I think my Shield generally perform better in 1080p for the GUI. But if I must have it in 4K to be SURE 4K is shown in 4K, so be it. But I don't think it is the right way to solve it.

Setting the Nvidia Shield to 4K in the settings makes it fixed at that resolution, so 1080p gets shown in 4K.
Only way to get it to show 1080p in actual 1080p with it set to 4K is to enable match resolution in Emby or the shield it self, note that this feature in the shield is in beta (though it has been that for years now).

The Shield one I've seen for years, never used it. Emby's match resolution has always being activated, but tried to deactivate for the test of this file. Didn't help,.but hope for a fix for this. 

I'll will say I'm going to try Kodi just to see if it will fix this little issue. Just for fun, loved Kodi for years 8-10 years ago

Enter the server path in Kodi, select it natively within the add-on, or enable Directplay in EmbyCon.

The vast majority of your content should be already working fine.  It was just this one wonky crop that threw thing awry.  I would say, however, that you should set your Shield to 4K unless you truly believe that your display panel does a better job of upscaling.

As far as the UI is concerned, it doesn't matter - that is in 1080 all the time anyway.

I used to have it 1080, in my head that was the best because most streaming etc is in 1080p and that would not work good when GUI is on 4K. But it was in my head because I don't see point of showing in 4K when it is in 1080. But I'll try 

Never ever used upscaling on TV or AVR. Never heard any good about it.

The TV is designed to scale the content accordingly. If it didn’t do that, you’d have to slide across the sofa depending on what you’re watching – 4K or Full HD. Believe me, an LG OLED for 1,699 euros can do that better than a 7-year-old Chinese-made set for 220 euros. Generally speaking, you shouldn’t let an AV receiver process the picture at all. Pass the signal through as much as possible. Nothing else.

I'll do, no processing at my AVR, my SMG TV i don't really know. But nothing I've turned on regardless. And my Shield is set to the standard setup for picture setting, other than it is set to 4K.

You do need to allow the Shield to run at 4K – but don’t set it to 23.976 Hz. 59.xxx is fine.

It’s best to use Just Player as your external player – Emby’s ExoPlayer is simply rubbish.
