New Emby for Android 3.5.45 Released

The actual connection speed to server is no different. He's reporting 30-40 seconds of a blank screen before he sees anything. That tells me we need to look at what happens before the UI loads and make sure we're not waiting on something to complete before showing the user interface.

Well you've seen the logs.

Is there nothing in there you can see as to why it takes so long.

Can you add more logging?

The ATV app loads in seconds every time.

so once you see the emby logo, then it's fast?

I was not sure what was going on for a while but now that I know it's not a big deal I'm ok with it popping up for a split second is fine.

I was puzzled by this thread but now my Android devices finally updated to 3.5.55, and this new notification "connecting to server" is confusing and unneeded. @Luke could you lengthen the time before it pops up, for those of us who don't have big delays reaching our server?

I wouldn't say fast.

I'll time it later today for you.

Here you go @Lukea video screen capture of the Universal Android app loading, which took 35 seconds to get to the EMBY logo, another 3 seconds to get to the "Connecting to server" message and then another 12 seconds to get to the home screen, so a total of about 50 seconds in total.

Also in the video, is the launching of the ATV app, which took 12 seconds to get to the home screen.

The log for the UA app loading is also attached.

Any thoughts?

There has to be something wrong with your device or your network (DNS?) because even 12 seconds for the ATV app is way too long.

Have you tried to debloat your Shield?

Not sure why the ATV app took 12 seconds, as just tried it again and it was 3 or 4.

There's nothing on my Shield that shouldn't be. I have uninstalled everything I don't use.

Hopefully @Lukecan marry up the log with the video and see what the issue is, but I've always had slow load times for the UA app, going back a couple of years now.

Debloating goes a lot further than just uninstalling some user apps, it also removes/disables some system apps. That said it shouldn't be necessary to do that, and I don't know how much it would actually help, but my device is very single purposed so I removed just about everything to keep it lean and using Projectivity launcher. Take a look at this, there's additional things suggested RE launchers but for the most part can just do the abd shell uninstall commands. https://florisse.nl/shield-debloat/

I saw the app icon in your video but when I saw the top bar with Home, Shop, etc isn't that the stock launcher?

I disabled ProjectIvy whilst I was using Twitch to do the screen record.

I've noticed this recently, where every once in a while it will take longer.  Normally it is very quick.

Fix it!!!! Dont add useless features. This is annoying as h3ll and completely useless. And you say it is a upgrade? 🤣 this is one way to destroy a userbase, keep up the good work 🙄

Jep this is really annoying to look at.

I know what it's trying to do.

But roll it back.....

This solved a specific problem for me that I had requested a solution for.

That's a fair point.

But left others baffled, like me.

Even on wired network with 1 - 5ms pings this happens 🤷‍♂️

Why is this  afflicting us and why not just remote connections.

Emby knows when it a remote connection / different network.

Only for people with slow, or bad connections.  Those of us with faster connections find it an annoyance that could be solved by only showing it for those having connection issues.

I don't often have my server on, but I want to listen to my offline music. Previously I had to wait a long time for the app to try connecting to the server before it figured out it couldn't before I could reach my downloaded music. Now I can get to it right away.

Agree, this helped those with slow connections. However, those of us with fast connection do NOT need to see it at all.  It confuses everyone when they first see it and it doesn't look right.

There must be a way to tailor it so only certain people see it.

I'm also pretty sure it's actively slowing down the startup process, because there's a minimum time for the message to display that's longer than my normal connection time.

It looks like an error message, and there's not generally enough time to properly read it and figure out what's going on. It's incredibly annoying.

Only if the connection succeeds between 300ms and 600ms will it slow it down and hold it until 600ms. Anything quicker or slower and it will not add any additional time.

I'm not quite sure of the point here.  I've never asked for it to be removed and think it's a nice addition for those who need it.  However, if your connection is so fast that the logo appears and then a popup is displayed and disappears before you can even read it before the home screen is shown then it isn't really necessary to make it show in the first place and just confuses people.
