Incorrect Artist Identification / Search Results

Hello, 

I have had a long time issue with incorrect/duplicate artist identification, they are most obvious in search results.

The most common example is when searching for Kanye West:

Clicking on the first artist will show a Lil Wayne biography, and will show a single track he is credited on:

For that single track, here are the tags where "Lil Wayne" is credited on:

However this single-track Lil Wayne page is completely different than the "actual" Lil Wayne page (that has 1000+ songs).

This is revealed when I play "See You in My Nightmares" and click the Lil Wayne artist link, which takes me to his full page:

Not sure what tags/credits are causing Emby to create a separate artist page/credit, but there are a lot of these instances.

Well what's odd is that all 3 artist IDs are the same between the single-track artist page and the "correct" artist page (MD, AudioDB, Discogs). I did not see any spelling differences on the album tags.

On the file itself, there are no artist IDs (only MUSICBRAINZ_ALBUMID). 

Running the files through Picard, saving them, and forcing a rescan in Emby does not fix the incorrectly identified artists in the search results.

Going over your first issue again, it's hard to say what might have happened when this content was first imported into your database. Do you have a way of testing this with a fresh install, or with all new content where the tracks, album and artists have never been in your server database before?

Otherwise we're kind of guessing about how it got that way, whether be through some defect in an older server version, various tinkering you might have done, etc.

It's true this may have been an issue from a previous server version (I've been using Emby for a while). I don't really have a way to test this on a fresh install but even when I manually delete the album containing the "incorrect" artist identification, after a rescan the issue persists.

I agree that nailing down the original cause would be hard to do, mostly just throwing this out there. If anything, I am more so interested in how to get Emby to clean up / recognize any incorrect artist identifications

I would try getting the artist completely cleared out of your server database. That means all tracks, albums and music videos. Then run a as normal scan of all libraries after that.

Hi, I've had similar random problems in the past when renaming Artists and/or Albums when I find errors, or just want to change my naming format, for whatever reason. Sometimes, on odd occasions, the changes will not 'take' on any combination of library rescan or refresh metadata for song, album, parent folder, or complete library, that I try. Besides what Luke has suggested, here's some ideas to perhaps try, if you haven't already...

• Use a tagging program to remove all MusicBrainz IDs from the rogue Song/Album.
• In Emby, disable MusicBrainz as a fetcher.
• Change the name of the parent album folder (and/or Artist folder, depending on your structure) - just add 'x' on the end, or anything you want.

Then, on a rescan of the next level parent folder, the one above the renamed 'x' folder, Emby should hopefully remove the old rogue Album/Song from its database and add the new one, using only the Artist name to match it to the 'correct' Artist.

That's my theory anyway, and has seemed to work for me on quite a few instances, when needed. The 'x' idea was just me being lazy and not wanting to remove folders, rescan, put them back, rescan, etc. - and finding it sometimes didn't work anyway.

Unfortunately I may not be able to manually remove/re-add everything as there are hundreds of albums (even just looking at Kanye, he has lots of works he's tagged on). I was hoping that re-saving the songs/albums in question would make Emby rescan and clear out the bad identifications for me.

 

@user24I have been doing the same exact thing you mentioned, and even have a few related threads (here and here) where I do those exact steps to get certain tag values to update where they otherwise wont for some reason (I think it happens when files have a MBID tag). Updating the file mod. date is not enough, so I end up either having to manually remove the item from Emby or will rename the folder lol.
