DiabboVerdde 13 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) Hello everyone! Over the past few days I noticed an odd behavior in my emby server, running on a Synology unit: The "Upcoming" tab (showing the upcoming episodes and dates for my tv shows) and all automatic scraping has stopped working. No data of any kind is received and the screen just remains blank/empty. It used to work just fine until a few days ago and I didn't change any settings on either Emby Server or the Synology unit. I checked the logs and saw some entries that may or may not be related, but it does relate failure to authenticate with the TheTvDB/TMDB APIs, which would explain everything, but why? Since I have changed no settings at all I see no reason for it to stop working. Here's the entries: 2026-08-12 09:56:39.065 Info HttpClient: POST https://api4.thetvdb.com/v4/login 2026-08-12 09:56:39.069 Error TvShowsService-0HNNNV0CQIOFL:0000000A: Error getting episode listing *** Error Report *** Version: 4.9.5.0 Command line: /volume1/@appstore/EmbyServer/system/EmbyServer.dll -programdata /var/packages/EmbyServer/var -ffdetect /var/packages/EmbyServer/target/bin/ffdetect -ffmpeg /var/packages/EmbyServer/target/bin/ffmpeg -ffprobe /var/packages/EmbyServer/target/bin/ffprobe -nolocalportconfig -ignore_vaapi_enabled_flag -pidfile /var/packages/EmbyServer/var/EmbyServer.pid -defaultdirectory /volume1/Public -updatepackage emby-server-synology72_{version}_x86_64.spk Operating system: Linux version 4.4.302+ (root@build7) (gcc version 12.2.0 (GCC) ) #86009 SMP Wed Nov 26 18:45:09 CST 2025 OS/Process: x64/x64 Framework: .NET 8.0.25 Runtime: volume1/@appstore/EmbyServer/system/System.Private.CoreLib.dll Processor count: 4 Data path: /var/packages/EmbyServer/var Application path: /volume1/@appstore/EmbyServer/system MediaBrowser.Model.Net.HttpException: MediaBrowser.Model.Net.HttpException: Cancelling connection to https://api4.thetvdb.com/v4/login due to a previous timeout. at Emby.Server.Implementations.HttpClientManager.CoreHttpClientManager.SendAsyncInternal(HttpRequestOptions options, String httpMethod) at Emby.Server.Implementations.HttpClientManager.CoreHttpClientManager.SendAsync(HttpRequestOptions options, String httpMethod) at Tvdb.EntryPoint.EnsureToken(CancellationToken cancellationToken) at Tvdb.EntryPoint.GetResponse(HttpRequestOptions request, String method) at Tvdb.TvdbEpisodeProvider.FetchEpisodes(String url, Int32 page, CancellationToken cancellationToken) at Tvdb.TvdbEpisodeProvider.FetchEpisodesWithAllPages(String url, CancellationToken cancellationToken) at Tvdb.TvdbEpisodeProvider.FetchMainResult(String seriesId, String seasonType, CancellationToken cancellationToken) at Tvdb.TvdbEpisodeProvider.EnsureEpisodesInfo(String id, String seasonType, TimeSpan cacheTime, IDirectoryService directoryService, CancellationToken cancellationToken) at Tvdb.TvdbSeriesProvider.GetAllEpisodes(SeriesInfo seriesInfo, CancellationToken cancellationToken) at Emby.Api.TvShowsService.GetAllEpisodes(Series series, Season season, LibraryOptions libraryOptions, Nullable`1 isUnaired, Nullable`1 isMissing, Nullable`1 isSpecial, CancellationToken cancellationToken) at Emby.Api.TvShowsService.GetAllEpisodes(User user, DtoOptions dtoOptions, String parentId, Nullable`1 isUnaired, Nullable`1 isMissing, Nullable`1 isSpecial, Boolean sortItems, Nullable`1 startIndex, Nullable`1 limit, CancellationToken cancellationToken) Source: Emby.Server.Implementations TargetSite: Void MoveNext() Also this: 2026-08-12 09:56:39.076 Debug TvShowsService-0HNNNV0CQIOFL:0000000A: http/1.1 Response 200 to host2. I don't think the problem is with TheTvDB/TMDB itself... Is there any guidance you guys can provide me here to fix this? I already check Sylology's firewall and there's nothing in there that could cause it, but I am open to suggestions. Thanks a lot! DiabboVerdde Edited 1 hour ago by DiabboVerdde fix typos
Luke 42873 Posted 45 minutes ago Posted 45 minutes ago Hi, the server’s requests to these domains are timing out and failing. Typical causes are firewall, security software or vpn . Can you look into those and let us know what you find?
Solution DiabboVerdde 13 Posted 6 minutes ago Author Solution Posted 6 minutes ago as a matter of fact, yes... I think I found the cause. It was NordVPN, which I use on my Synology. Somehow the certificates for the ovpn connections to NordVPN expired and my kill switch cut all communication when this happened. I had to replace the ovpn files with new ones to refresh the certificates and like magic it worked. I have used this VPN for many years, never had a certificate expire before, but I guess there's a first for everything. Thanks a lot @Luke, I'll leave the topic here to help anyone who might go though the same situation.
