Status of Dolby Vision Profile 5.0 transcoding?

Ive seen a couple of threads for DV Profile 5.0 for clients without the necessary hardware.  I was just wondering what the status is?

If the delay is due to performance issues, I understand that realtime streaming may not be possible yet while its figured out.  However, as a holdover solution, would it make sense to add this ability to the conversion system?

This way if a client was having the issue, they could kick off a conversion?

TIA

People forget DV is proprietary and any work on it without the proper licensing is against copyright. Emby is legally limited to what ffmpeg can do. Projects like Jellyfin can skirt the law as there are far too many developers for them to go after. You are honestly better off to convert the files yourself with the tools that are available, or source the proper files, or tell your friends family to buy the right freaking hardware, which for DV profile 5 it's not really feasible so we're back to steps 1 and 2.

Thank you for the update.

One thing I have thought of, would it be possible to setup the "conversion" flow to be setup by the user for applications being run?

Meaning, we (as users) provide the steps to run, and it could work into the flow?

Probably not. Again DV is proprietary and Emby's hands are tied. If you want to do anything with these files, you must do it manually. Even Plex doesn't support tone mapping of DV because of licensing. InFuse does it client side as they have a license for it, apparently.

People need to give up on DV, and come to the realization that if you don't have the proper hardware, it's just not going to work. Segregate your files. I have a separate DV library myself. I only give access to those that have the right hardware, which is what people need to start doing.

Honestly, I had about 15 movies and 30 or so episodes.

I wrote a script to do the conversion, that worked for all but 4 or 5 files.  For those the pulling of the RPU data using using dovi_tool was empty, so I just req-acquired them.

I think marked each file with "-DV" so a user would know.

Is there any "sure file" way for emby to ask the client if they support DV Profile 5? Or if they dont support DV 10 fallback?

Thanks for the info.
