Suddenly: Missing Movie Poster on Synology NAS

After a sync of my work-related folder with Syncthing (no emby folder got touched) I noticed that a lot of the movie posters got missing. I assumed a corruption because of a lack of enought inotify, so I increased them to 204800.

I did "Refresh Metadata" (including "Replace existing images") and "Scan Library Files" a couple of times. It initially worked and I got my covers back, till the next day half of them were missing again. Syncing is deactivated since a long time now, so I'm not sure it's related to the issue.

The missing posters appear in the emby app, Kodi and diverse browsers.

Any idea where the bug could be buried?

Hi, have you noticed the permissions problems in your log? Could that be related?

	System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Could not find a part of the path '/volume1/music/Werni'.

Thanks for looking in to it.  No, the permission problems are in the music sections and for the movies I did not find a System:IO Problem.

I had some errors in a previous log, saying something like a Cover art plugin had no license key. So I deleted it and rescanned the movie section. The errors were gone, but the cover problem still exists.

OK. It's hard to say what happened because I think we're dealing with something that happened in the past. We'd probably need to see log files from when it actually happened.

But in all likelihood, something on your system deleted files that it shouldn't have. To get new images you can refresh metadata on existing titles.

Yes and no, the first time it happened is a probably more then a month ago. But something seams to reset it over and over again. As sad, if I Refresh Metadata it is good for a few hours, before it goes back to half missing. What could case such a behavior? And I double checked, the server just looses pictures, not the other metadata of the movies. Is there a limit on how big the database can get?

Files being deleted is the most likely cause. So they could be under /var/packages/EmbyServer/var or in your media folders directly depending on how you have your library options set.
