Please add a feature where Emby will retain data

Hello, 

I recently started using Emby and I created a whole library with collections replaced images and looked up information on the Internet for all my movies and TV shows.

I had to move all of my files over to a larger drive only for Emby to lose all of the work that I did hours upon hours. Could you please make a way for MB to retain all of this information so people don’t have to do everything all over again every time they change a directory or change a drive.. I lost all my collections. Everything I went in and all my movies and TV shows were all in one big slapping nest..

also, could you make a way for you to be able to select multiple movie files or TV show files and change images all at once instead of having to do them individually that would save a great deal of time.

it’s really discourages people from doing something like this and putting this much work into something only to lose it just like that. And then when you wanna go edit TV shows you have to edit each episode all one by one instead of being able to select a bunch of them at once and edit them all at the same time. not being able to select multiples and replacing images for all of them all at once you have to do it all one at a time..

Hi, we have this feature already. In your Library options enable saving nfo files and saving images to media folders.

I have all of that enabled.  For some reason it kept all of the images etc that I have locally but every one I used the URL option were all gone.  I’m not sure why.  I can see that all of the poster files copied over but all of the URL reverted back to what they were originally.

Also on TV shows it would be nice to use IMDB because many of the TVshowDB and the MovieDB pull up the wrong shows.

Allowing to select multiple shows/movies and mass changing images would be a nice feature.

Is there a way not to lose your collections?

IMDb unfortunately is not an option because they charge tens of thousands of dollars.

Sorry you lost all your work, thats frustrating.

Why didnt you use the backup and restore function, it works great and designed for exactly what you described.

You can also set nightly backups

Thank you for the responses.  I did use the backup and restore function but unfortunately it threw everything back onto the original drive which is full.  It did restore many things but for some reason I still lost my collections.  Again, I’m not placing blame for that it’s just upsetting.

The URL option I am talking about is when you go to change or add an image to a movie or show it gives you the option to use a local file or URL.  For many I used the URL option but for some reason it did not retain those but every movie and show that I downloaded or used a personal image on my PC, It retained.  This was even after using the restore function.

What I mean about using IMDB is for filling in the Metadata for movies and TV shows.  For movies I  believe (I don’t remember which setting) it allows you to put in the code linking it to IMDB and the rest of the services but for TV shows it only allows you to use TVDB and The Movie DB.  Interestingly when you click the link to test those after putting in their respective numbers, it will take you to a /movie url on the site linking it to tv wrong things rather than the /TV section.

if that is confusing my next reply I’ll include a few links and pictures.  Just explaining it best I can.

I think I know what you mean, Emby will download and save the image from the url.

When you restore a backup you have to use the same drive letter. Did you reassign  the old drive the give the new drive the old ones letter?

If your not using drivepool I would strongly recommend it, then you can simply add your new drive to the pool and not need to backup and restore.

Yes but when you enter the imdb id, it is only used to lookup on moviedb, not to go directly to imdb.

I apologize for the delay in response.  I suffer from a few heart problems that put me down from time to time.

My biggest things here:

#1.  How do you move your collection to another drive and retain your collections?

#2.  Can you add a feature where you can mass select movies and TV shows and change the images In one shot.

#3.  Can you make it so that every movie and TV show you can use IMDB, ThemovieDB, TheTVDB etc for metadata?  Some of the services link the wrong info and it’s pretty bad and in some situations you cannot use another site for Metadata.

Also another question.

example:

I put seasons of He-Man and the masters of the universe into several collections but for some reason it keeps bunching them all up together and putting them into a dropdown box in it.  Is there a way to prevent this?

When you click the link to the right of the IMDB box it links you to the movie or tv show on their site.

a good example of it sending you to the wrong area is when you put in a tv show and link it to its respective number, when you click that link it links you to the movie section, not the tv section on that site linking it to the wrong metadata.

Yes because emby users like that, but there is no lookup of imdb data.

Have you explored your emby user display options by clicking your user icon in the top right?

Yes and I have them all enabled but still will only show one or two of them.

In case you enabled them after you already imported your library, please see the help text at the top of the library options dialog.

Also that screenshot from the metadata editor is from a Collection - only MovieDb has collections, so that's showing as expected.
