Turning subtitles on stops playback on Emby app (Shield Pro)

Subtitles have stopped working on the Emby app for my Shield Pro with Emby server. When I toggle them on, the movie stretches vertically, gets stuck loading for 10 seconds, and then force backs out of the movie. Sometimes the server shuts down after this. I have tested multiple movies and they all do this. The subtitles are working fine when using JustPlayer and on Emby from my phone and PC. I have tried reinstalling the Emby app, clearing cache, confirming permissions allowed. One thing I have not yet done is reinstall the server. Any ideas on how I can fix this would be very helpful. Also wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Thanks.

Thanks for the prompt responses. Please see below information:

Problem: Tried to activate subtitles while watching 2001: A Space Odyssey mkv (happens with all movies)

I have attached a video and what I think are the correct logs from the web app.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can provide.

Hello ebr,

The problem is happening on all movies with subtitles even if its just one track. Also all these movies subtitles were working fine just a few weeks ago.

I just reproduced the problem again and sent the logs from the app.

Ah, I see now you already did do that.  Thanks.

As I observed from the video, the server simply stops responding and that is why playback stops.  The app is not "crashing".  Playback is failing because the server stops responding.  The question is why...

failed to connect to /192.168.0.57 (port 8096) from /:: (port 54272): connect failed: ECONNREFUSED (Connection refused)

Hopefully, Luke can spot something server side.

Thanks for the response.

To clarify, after playback stops, it brings me back to the movie info screen and then if I try to play the movie again (even without subtitles enabled) it will freeze and force close the Emby app.

Seems I have to give the server a bit of time before I try to play a movie again or else that happens.

Yes, as shown above, your server has frozen up and quit responding.

Just noticed your server is running on a Shield.  The same device as the app?

Have you tried disabling HW accel transcoding?

Just tried this. No luck.

Yes my server is running on the shield. I have never had a problem using Shield Pro as Server and client in the past.

There is something going on with my Shield Emby App because I've been doing more testing and some movies have no audio but the subtitles are working, other movies are working with audio and subtitles, some movies are not playing at all.

Emby server is working flawlessly from my PC and phone but on the Shield it is having lots of problems. I think I am at the point where I am going to start my server over fresh.

Hopefully that fixes it.

Thanks for the help.

Maybe try updating to the app to .50?

Or using the standard app which may handle your subs without transcoding.

Have to agree with OP. Emby app on Shield freezes, won't display subtitles, sometimes no audio. All this since yesterday or so. Running a HTPC setup with Emby Server 4.9.5.0 on Windows 10.
