phoenix66az@yahoo.com 0 Posted Monday at 04:26 PM Posted Monday at 04:26 PM I've been using Emby for at nearly 10 years and one day I woke up to install .NET so after 4 weeks of trying to find the solution, I've thought I downloaded it but it still wasn't working. Since then I've switched to Plex and its working great but I'd rather use Emby. I've tried uninstalling and starting from scratch but it won't let me do that as it shows " Cannot Find file" and wouldn't let me uninstall. Does anyone have the solution, I'm using a Dell PC Inspiron 3020 with 13th generation Intel I5-13400

phoenix66az@yahoo.com 0 Posted Monday at 05:06 PM Author Posted Monday at 05:06 PM The server isn't working, it all comes back to I need to install .NET application program or extension
DellHome 0 Posted Monday at 10:24 PM Posted Monday at 10:24 PM I'm through with this platform it doesn't work all of a sudden, I've downloaded and installed .NET as it directed me to, but alas I can't get my server to work. Maybe I'll check Jellyfin? I was actually going to buy the lifetime but not now I'll go another route. Best of it won't let me remove what is still in my PC haha
Luke 42687 Posted Monday at 11:05 PM Posted Monday at 11:05 PM Hi, what exactly do you by can’t get server to work?
Luke 42687 Posted Monday at 11:06 PM Posted Monday at 11:06 PM Also are all windows updates installed?
DellHome 0 Posted yesterday at 12:30 AM Posted yesterday at 12:30 AM Yes all Windows programs are current. It keeps putting me in a loop. I'm attaching both screenshots when i try to login.

Your EmbyServer installation must have become corrupted in some way. The server uses .net8 and is self-contained, which means it has all the .net stuff it needs on board already. Installing a .net runtime won't help. You can try uninstall+install again or install without uninstall (as you said you can't remove it). Please also take a look at the Windows event log and check your antivirus for any events.
softworkz 5274 Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago I have merged the other topic (https://emby.media/community/topic/148500-plex-here-i-come/) into this one, because @DellHomeappears to be tthe same user as @phoenix66az@yahoo.com.
DellHome 0 Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Yes I am I created a new account thinking i could start fresh
DellHome 0 Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago This morning I woke up and didn't have the " Need to install error" when I opened my PC, so I at least thats gone. I'm wondering when downloading the server, should i be selecting "beta Channel"?

Still do what I said: Check Windows Event Log and Antivirus - this is not normal what you've seen. 5 minutes ago, DellHome said: should i be selecting "beta Channel"? No.
DellHome 0 Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago I've open the Windows Event log and there are several ERRORS they say HAL I've attached the screen shot
softworkz 5274 Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago HAL is something very fundamental (Hardware Abstraction Layer). Beyond that, I cannot say much more - PC support is not really our expertise, but maybe some community member has an idea what it could be. Thanks
DellHome 0 Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago trying uninstall and I get this message, any idea?
sa2000 785 Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago This uninstall error means it is either already been uninstalled or the C:\Users\Steve\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\system has been renamed or deleted Part of the setup.exe action is to rename the system folder to system.old and then create a new system folder contents in the %AppData% - maybe this action is not being completed If you are trying to setup a brand new emby server, then just rename C:\Users\Steve\Appdata\Roaming\Emby-Server or delete it and start again Acknowledging all the prompts you get for allowing the installer to do the actions it needs to do It should then auto launch the default browser and present you with a screen like this
DellHome 0 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Thanks for the suggestion and I tried that and this is what i got. If I search for Emby the 2nd image comes up and inside those are a lot of files I just don't get what happened one its great next day was the error .NET BS The 3rd image would normally the Emby icon in my bottom tray of my screen Should i just delete these folders?
sa2000 785 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago 36 minutes ago, DellHome said: Should i just delete these folders? No - this is a quirk of the search view you have selected. Have a look at this info: Multiple AppData folders : Q&A If you go to this folder in Explorer - what do you see C:\Users\Steve\AppData\Roaming If you have run the setup.exe that you download from Emby Server for Windows it should have created this folder C:\Users\Steve\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server Your second screenshot suggests you are downloading the portable installation zip. Lets switch you to downloading the setup.exe instead as that would put files in the right place
sa2000 785 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Suggest you enable displaying filename extensions - it would make it easier to identify files. In "File Explorer Options" untick the hide option
sa2000 785 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago If problems persist, could you look for this file and upload it c:\users\steve\appdata\roaming\Emby-InstallLogs\server-install.log and see if this folder gets created and what folders are within it c:\users\steve\appdata\roaming\emby-server\programdata
TMCsw 279 Posted 57 minutes ago Posted 57 minutes ago Maybe try this?
