Same recording keeps popping up

Hello - I'm not sure which DB the recording scheduler uses, but for my metadata I use TVDB which apparently assigns different episode#'s to shows like American Experience and Frontline, and so even though I already have a particular recording, the scheduler doesn't realize this since there's a mismatch in the episode#, and so I will cancel some re-airing of a program, but it keeps just coming up the next day at a different time over and over again. Could we add something like "I already have this episode" or "never record this episode", instead of "cancel recording" which only cancels that one airing?

Hi.  We already have that.  The issue you are running into is there is no way for the system to know it is the same episode because, as you say, it is getting different episode numbers.

So, how would you tell it to not record it again when it pops up with a different identification later?

The "later" could be years later, if ever, because you're counting on the episode being both renumbered (yet again) and being re-aired again, so for practical purposes there should be an option for "not interested in this episode" or "never record this episode."

But, if it has a different episode number each time (which is what's causing the issue you are having), how do you identify "this" episode...?

I'm using the Emby guide data. 

It's not a different episode each time, it's just different from what's in TVDB.

Yes it's not a bad idea, but it would be based on what's in the guide, not tvdb.

Hello - any progress on this? Every day this week I've had to delete the American Experience documentary "The Vote" from my recording queue since I recorded it 6 years ago when it first aired, but which is apparently in heavy rotation this week. Maybe add an option for "I already have this."

As already stated, this recording is in my library but the season#/episode# for upcoming recordings doesn't always match the season#/episode# from TVDB which is what I use for my library. This seems to happen frequently with American Experience and Frontline episodes, although I have noticed it occasionally with other shows. This is why at one point I was advocating a file format that could contain all relevant metadata, but I digress...

Such as? There is nothing truly universal. Tvdb does not have anything to link to our guide data, and the guide data doesn't have any tvdb identifier.

Using the numbers is the closest available option. Using episode title is not sufficient as it will result in things happening in cases when they should not.

Right, so given the occasional problems with season/episode mismatch, it would genuinely help if I could mark something as "already in my library."
