pgriffith 88 Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Hi Guys, need some advice on audio. Currently have Emby running on Windows 11 outputting 5.1 analogue audio to an old amplifier, so fronts, rears, centre & sub (RCA plugs) and direct connection to TV via HDMI. Works flawlessly, any 5.1 content be it DTS, EAC/AC3 and AAC 5.1 plays as it should. Owners of this setup are looking to upgrade to a new Yamaha RX-V4A, with HDMI input/output etc. It CANNOT do analogue 5.1 inputs. My questions is, what happens to audio that isn't Dolby Digital or DTS? Specifically, AAC 5.1 which is what a vast majority of their movies and TV shows have. Does it get passed through HDMI as 5.1? Appreciate any info you have.
visproduction 362 Posted June 16 Posted June 16 I thnk it should be. I don't have this setup. Your new AV amp might have a reduce to stereo setting. So watch for that. I usually just use two amps and rear active large computer speakers which sticks to the RCA plug approach and is quite dependable. Also check for HDMI 2.1 compatible. I am not sure if that is needed. Maybe someone will know for details on this and post an answer.
Mahinepua 113 Posted June 17 Posted June 17 (edited) yes it will pass through as pcm. any formats that arent set to bitstream will be decoded by MPV and passed to the receiver. you might also want to connect hdmi to the tv directly and separate hdmi audio to the receiver. I have one setup with 2 video outputs direct to the TV and projector and also 2 audio to different receivers. Edited June 17 by Mahinepua 1 1
pgriffith 88 Posted June 18 Author Posted June 18 Are you sure you aren't referring to Emby Theater and not the new Windows app, I thought only Theater used MPV and the new Windows app didn't.
