Title Switch (based on Version-Selection)

Hi,

just upgraded (and jumped over some versions) to server version 4.9.5.0

And as I previously didn’t put different versions of movies or different resolutions of a movie in one folder – cause of structure reasons - I’m really very, very happy that at this point emby obviously made a move to support versions based on movie-id.  (one thing I liked very much with infuse).

Thank you!

But:

Although Emby switches (based on version selection) length, language and subtitle fields accordingly, the title (from nfo) stay’s the same, which unfortunately doesn’t allow me to select the version I wanna watch. Enclosed screenshots for example „Blade Runner“ – I have different versions and cuts of the movie.

Right now there's no way to select the "Final-Cut" or the "Working Print"....

I hope you can implement a kind of „Title-Switch“ soon. (And in this case "remembering" the watched/started version of the movie would also be very, very welcome;)

__________

I also figured out that obviously „new added versions“ of an existing movie are not visible/shown as „new movies“.

Maybe I missed: Is there any option to switch this on or off? (Example: Some movies I already own, I re-buy on bluray or UHD or get a new remastered version, but this "new entry" is not shown)

Thank you so much for all the great work, I’m a big big Emby-Fan and very happy user.

Hi.  This is just a naming issue.  If you name your versions properly, you will see them in the drop down.

Movie Naming

Re-Organizing all my library is still not an option for me, cause of folder structures and strict common naming formats in my lib since beginning.

DVDs or Bluray's or TV-Recordings are all located on different "places".

That's why I love that "Versions" are now supported, and hope that "Title-Switch" or Info will follow......

(please don't tell me I have to switch back my library to a previous version of emby-server)

It works fine already.

@crusher11is right 👍

Its all about the naming.

Well, it's not.

The "Versions" option is an "option" since years, if you put all movie versions in one folder and name the files different. Which was - as I wrote - never an option for me.

So my organisation worked well and "Blade Runner" search found 6 entries with different titles and different covers (DVD, Bluray....).

Now - obviously versions are also found via movie-id, what really makes sense and is great (as working under infuse front-end), but right now my library is kind of messed up, without showing the differences, if I select a movie with different formats or versions in my library.

How are your files and folders named?

One Example:

Path: /Volumes/_KOPIFLIX/_MEDIA/MOVIES-BLURAY/_BLOCK_1/BLADE_RUNNER_FINAL_CUT

File: BLADE_RUNNER_FINAL_CUT_[BLURAY].mkv

NFO: <title>Blade Runner, Der - Final Cut</title>

all necessary files within this folder like:

BLADE_RUNNER_FINAL_CUT_[BLURAY].fanart.jpg

BLADE_RUNNER_FINAL_CUT_[BLURAY].jpg

BLADE_RUNNER_FINAL_CUT_[BLURAY].nfo

###

different Source:

Path: /Volumes/_KOPIFLIX/_MEDIA/MOVIES-DVD/BLADE_RUNNER_FINAL_CUT

File: BLADE_RUNNER_FINAL_CUT_[DVD].mkv

NFO: <title>Blade Runner, Der - Final Cut</title>

###

different Version:

Path: /Volumes/_KOPIFLIX/_MEDIA/MOVIES-DVD/BLADE_RUNNER_ARCHIVAL_US_VERSION

File: BLADE_RUNNER_ARCHIVAL_US_VERSION_[DVD].mkv

NFO: <title>Blade Runner, Der - Archiv Version [US]</title>

all files for this version inside folder of course.

###

Well, as I wrote it's not a naming thing, because my different versions (for example cause of source) are located on different drives and/or different main folders based on format (like mp4 or mkv or ts files).

And this all worked fine til Emby started to decide to join all those entries :(

Now new movies I buy (Bluray or UHD) from movies I already own on DVD are not shown as "New" and as described I cannot select the version/movie I wanna watch, if I have more than one entries of a movie. It's a mess and I hope there is an update soon....

Yes it is. You're not following the correct naming conventions, so Emby has no idea what to display in the drop-down. If you name your files correctly, it will work just fine, as shown in my screenshot earlier in the thread.

As I wrote: It's NOT a versions thing. Version option is existing for years, I decided against for good reasons - and had a well working library with NO versions, but different edits or sources of the same movie.

Now: Emby decided (don't know since which version) to handle movies with the same ID as ONE movie, which was not mentioned or warned against.

My library is a mess right now.

I hope someone can help and tell me how I can go back to a previous server version, or a kind of switch for turning this "feature" on is "hopefully" implemented soon. Thx.

As per above, it is already implemented, select "None" in "Multi-version item detection" dropdown under Automatic grouping section in your library edit.
