Doony 2 Posted June 2 Posted June 2 Currently the emby samsung client always transcodes opus codec in audio and video files. My tizen 9 tv fully supports opus stereo,5.1 and 7.1 without any issue. If the issue only arises in older tizen versions and tvs atleast give an manual button to turn off the force transcoding.
SamES 1107 Posted June 2 Posted June 2 There are a lot of variations of Opus and we have had issues on Samsung and LG platforms. We've even seen files that would start playback with DirectPlay, then the audio just stops for no reason. In the end, it was causing so many issues that we decided to disable DirectPlay for this format. 20 minutes ago, Doony said: My tizen 9 tv fully supports opus stereo,5.1 and 7.1 without any issue. Is this based on the manual, or all of your testing? All the older models also claim full support, but it often isn't the case. Even if you have many files that play fine, I don't have a high degree of confidence that even on newer models that files will all work universally for others with similarly new models. In fact, I had samples from users that work fine on my 2017 Samsung TV, but not on their newer models. It was a real mixed bag.

I've been using opus files for 3 years not once I had issues with opus codec in the built in samsung player, so it will be useful if it plays fine in directplay. I thought it will be better if we had an option to choose. 1 1
FrostByte 5481 Posted June 2 Posted June 2 Agree, I think this was brought up before that maybe since this codec is specifically mentioned in the manual to be supported it would be a good idea to let the user toggle whether it transcodes, or not. 1
