what are the steps to reproduce?

I think I've tracked it down. When I log into the computer remotely via Remote Desktop & fire up the app for testing/configuring, at some point it crashes. Log files pointed to no audio device loading/failing. Checked my remote log in settings & indeed I had it set to "Do not play".  Reconfigured to play on this computer & voila, no crash.
