@Luke

Hi,

I am having issues with Playlists, specifically getting Alexa to recognize and play a playlist.

I am moving from Plex to Emby.

I exported a playlist from Plex using a tool called Webtools-NG, I then modified the file to be a normal playlist with .m3u extension

I tested it in Itunes and Vox, both played successfully.

I then moved the file to the proper playlist folder location that is on my NAS. Scanned the music folder. Example; /shares/Music/Playlist/Playlist_filename

I went into Emby, saw the playlist, clicked play and the playlist played

I went to Amazon Echo Dot and spoke the following; Alexa, ask MB Home to play playlist Chill Mix

Alexa replied, the requested media is not in the Library.

Alexa plays individual songs ok

Alexa plays songs by artists ok

Alexa plays albums ok

Alexa will not play a playlist.

It doesnt matter if I create the playlist in Emby or I create the playlist outside of Emby, Alexa does not see it.

I have checked that the Amazon emby skill logs in the same way I created the playlist inside of Emby.

There is my story. I hope this gives you a clear picture of my struggles and assist you in finding a solution.

Thank you,

Marvin

I am running Emby 4.9.3 on a WD My Cloud EX 2 Ultra, OS 5.

I see there is a new/updated version 4.10.??   Is this newer version ok to run on my NAS?  How do I get the newer version?

It may help me with these pesky playlist issue(s) I am experience, do you think so?

I also attached the server log, hoping this will let you see my problem

I get a reply from Alexa saying the requested media is not in the library.

I just thought of something that I will test tomorrow, could this be user permissions related. Public vs Private playlist?

If you see the same playlist in the Emby web app, and you are logged in with alexa as the same user, then it should work. So please try that and let us know how things go.

I have two users, 1 is marvin the other is Admin

Admin can manage the server while marvin can not.

The option to share personal content is active.

I have 4 playlists, each user can see all 4 playlists. 2 playlists I exported from Plex using an app called soundiiz. The other 2 playlist were created in Emby

  • When I ask Alexa to play the playlists that were exported by soundiiz, the reply I get is Media type video is unsupported by Amazon echo, please change to a supported device
  • When I ask Alexa to play the playlist that were created inside of Emby, the reply I get is The requested media is not found in the library.

The command I use 'Alexa, ask MB Home to play the playlist [Playlist name]'

  • When I ask Alexa to play a playlist that has been deleted, it actually starts to play some music. And the music it plays was actually in the deleted playlist.

Please help, I am not official confused.

I have performed the database cleanup routine thinking that with the new setup adding and deleting stuff, maybe the database was corrupted, but no change in behavior.

I have attached the server logfile, hoping that it will help

An exact example;

Create a Playlist within Emby called chill mix

Scan the folder Playlists

The chill mix playlist appears in the playlist folder within emby

Go to the amazon dot and use the following command

Alexa, ask mb home to play the playlist chill mix

The reply is ether the requested media is not in the library.

Or

This media type can not be played on this device.

Could you try renaming the playlist a simple one word name and retrying?

Hello Hatharry,

I deleted the old playlist

Recreated a new playlist, with a one word name, Wine.

I invoked the following commands with the same results.

  • Alexa ask MB home to play the playlist wine
  • Alexa ask MB home to play the wine playlist

Both Alexa commands returned the following reply; The requested media is not found in the Library.

Emby web plays the playlist Wine, successfully

Is it possible, Alexa is looking somewhere else for the playlists file?

So do I disable and reenable or will the fix automatically occur?

Let me know and either way, thank you
