Unraid Server with unusable password login solution

Recommended Posts

I do not believe that Emby can be used on an Unraid server.  I am left with no ability to log into Emby for no reason I can see.  After many attempts at logging into Emby on my Unraid Server, I made an attempt to reset the password and was left with a confusing message which told me that I would find the solution in a file located at:  /config/passwodreset.txt    with now way to discover or use this file.  I definitely would appreciate a better way to fix the issue.  If someone has an answer to this I would appreciate a little help.  Thanks

What makes you think that? There are many community members who run their Emby Server (in a docker container) on Unraid.

Hi @FireCrakerwhat folder do you have /config mapped to in unraid ? That should help you locate it.

Thank you for your response.

When I setup Emby I mapped my 'multimedia' folder in Unraid.  That particular folder does not have a config folder or file in it.

@FireCrakerdid you not map appdata config?

Should I have mapped the 'appdata' folder on my pc?  I did find this:   image.png.03ceeb53460826a3e7d35e7f474ce58e.pngimage.png.04827b540e0c99807f96158b0dc50b98.png

OK so the appdata is there 👍

Now you need to look in this folder to finde it.

I found the config file but it says nothing about resetting my password.  I sent you a screen shot of most of the file contents.  You should be able to see what I am looking at.

Thanks

Also, anyone else who has a problem with their Emby password login would not find this issue easy to resolve.  It is probably an Emby programing problem any way.

Hi, how did you send that?

Hi, what makes you think it's an Emby programming problem?

You don't need to find the server config file. You need to find the password reset file that you were instructed to find initially at /config/passwordreset.txt

The resetting of a password should not include an in-depth knowledge of the Unraid filing system to locate an obscure file with very few instructions.

Obviously it is in a config folder.  The folder information I sent you does not contain the /config/passwordreset.txt file.  I understand that the config folder might not always be in the same place.  If however, if the normal place to find the file is: appdata/EmbyServer/config/users/XXXXXXXXXXXX.  Why not state that in the comments on where to find the file after attempting to reset it?  I am sorry to bother you with this issue but I am sure others who forget their password would appreciate a little better clarification on where to find the reset file so they could begin the process of getting back into their Emby settings and recordings.  I have solved my problem with the password for the moment and appreciate your getting back with me.

Hi, you’re running in a container. The server only sees and knows about /config.  On the physical system you might have that mapped to app data/Embyserver/config but that configuration happens outside the container and therefore Emby server doesn’t have access to that information.

All it sees is /config, so you need to locate the corresponding path on the host system and then go from there.

But how did you send info? I did not receive anything from you privately.

I am sorry Luke, this is what I thought I sent to you: Sorry about the confusion.  I have solved the problem.  This is Unraid server in a Ugreen NAS setup. There are only two files in this folder.      image.png.03ceeb53460826a3e7d35e7f474ce58e.pngimage.png.04827b540e0c99807f96158b0dc50b98.png

I have solved the problem

Hi, what was the solution?

There are only two files in this folder.

You're looking at a user config file. the password reset file will be two levels up from that.

The solution was finally discovering the correct password for Emby.  I still have not been able to discover the reset instructions.  Also, I discovered that Unraid can only be logged into with the root username and password.  Setting up an additional user in Unraid only allows external file sharing.  I feel which is a bit unusual from my experience with servers.  Back the main problem of the Emby login.  If I have a problem with this again I am still in the dark as to where that login reset information is stored on my server.  I have scoured the shares and files and still cannot find the correct file.  I think the message said it was in:   /config/passwordreset.txt   That particular file does not appear anywhere on my server as far as I can tell.

What is the syntax before /config   ?  Where can I find additional "config" folders besides the system etc.  I would assume that Emby would have a "config" folder but that only has two files and neither of them is the right file.  Can I do a search of my entire server for the passwordreset.txt file?  Anyway I am weary of trying to discover this solution and I do appreciate your help.

Thanks,

FireCraker

I just found from another user that this is where the file should!

Sorry, this is where it should be!   Either way it is not there.  Perhaps it is because I have solved the problem with the correct password?  This has been an unusual journey.  Thanks for your attempt to help with this.

You need to take that up with unRaid.

TBH this all comes down to You not knowing your OS and how to use it.

Its on you to know.

Try going through the password reset process again and see if the file gets generated inside that folder.
