Force remote user to download not stream

I have a very low powered server that cannot transcode any video. It is fine for LAN users but I want to allow an external user to only download locally then play locally. I have set it all up and downloads and local playback all work fine. However the user can still attempt to direct play (all transcoding is turned off) I tried turning off "allow media playback" in the users profile but that prevented playback of the downloaded file. Is there any way to achieve this apart from reminding them to not press play unless they have chosen the downloaded version and if there isn't the option that they need to download the file?

HI. I can see how if we expanded on this control then it might be useful to be able to do this.

Until then though I'm not sure there's a great way to do it.

I would suggest that the "allow media playback" could be expanded into two settings, "allow local media playback" and "allow remote media playback" I'll raise it in the feature requests to see if there is any interest. In the meantime as no transcoding is allowed if the remote user tries to playback direct they will soon realize their mistake as it really won't work over my slow upload broadband.
