flatustube 2 Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Hi all I am no IT novice but this has fried my brain. I have read multiple forum posts about this but cannot seem to get it to work - the fact that there are so many posts makes me wonder if it is actually all the easy after all. I have Emby server set up on my Asustor AS5402T and can access all my media from any device connected to my home network In the server dashboard I have left the port selection for internal and Public access at the default port numbers. 'Allow remote connections' and 'Automatic port mapping' are both ON. My daughter has registed for Emby Connect and has responded to the verification email. I have added her as a user and added her email address in the Emby Connect email box and she has a cloud symbol next to her name as a user. Using the app.emby.media link she can see my server but cannot connect to it and gets a variety of suggestions with http addresses which match my internal address and port and the external address and port - none of which will give her access. I am now completely lost. Do I need to use the EZ Router in ADM to manually set up ports for access? I know Tailscale is often suggested as a simple solution but shes going to be watching on a smart TV (Roku LG TV) and I'm not sure Tailscale is availble as an app for it. Can anyone who has a similar setup chime in? I am in the UK so my ability to respond in real time may not be brilliant. Thanks Phil
Q-Droid 989 Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Start with https://canyouseeme.org. If the test fails then nothing your daughter tries will work and you have to figure out why it fails. More below. If the canyouseeme test succeeds then from a browser make sure your daughter is using the right protocol to connect. If you only have HTTP configured then the app.emby.media URL also has to be HTTP. These days browsers will automatically switch to HTTPS so you might have to disable that feature and force HTTP. To check why canyouseeme can't see you look on your router to verify the ports for Emby (8096/8920) are indeed forwarded. At this point it would be best to disable "Automatic port mapping" in Emby and manually forward the ports via router config. Go back to step 1 and test again. 1
flatustube 2 Posted February 4 Author Posted February 4 Thanks I will start with that and get back. Phil
flatustube 2 Posted February 5 Author Posted February 5 Luke, thanks for chiming in - I am unfortunately not getting anywhere. A bit more information. My ISP is Starlink (I am very rural in Scotland) and obviously they don't provide a fixed IP address.. The Starlink router is in bridge mode and the wired LAN is provided by a TPLink AX3000 router. The wireless on the router is turned off and the wireless network is provided by a Deco mesh system - with the main unit hardwired to the TPLink router UPNP is turned on in the router My Asustor NAS is obviously hardwired to the router as well and thats where my Emby server and media sit. I can access my Emby media anywhere in the house on any device connected to the wireless network. I have setup the router and network(within the Emby server) using the guide below My daughter has an Emby Connect account and is registered as a user and her email address is in the Emby Connect email box. There is a green cloud symbol by her name. Using app.emby.media she is unable to access the server either on her laptop or the web browser on her Roku TV or Amazon firestick. Connecting via the remote access url given in the Dashboard t or the error message given when trying to log in via app.emby.media times out. The same happens to me when I try to connect from my mobile outside of the home network I've uploaded my latest emby log Any help greatly appreciated Phil embyserver (1).txt
Luke 42077 Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Have you checked to see if your ISP uses a CGNat? If so then you'll need a VPN for remote access.
Q-Droid 989 Posted February 5 Posted February 5 (edited) Starlink uses CGNAT for IPv4. This leaves @flatustube with options like IPv6 which means both ends (client/server) need to support it or a 3rd party service like Tailscale or VPN. Edited February 5 by Q-Droid
Solution flatustube 2 Posted February 7 Author Solution Posted February 7 Just to follow up - I used Tailscale and everything is working well. Thanks Phil 1 1
