brianfriske 3 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 I have a Sonos system and two 5.1 surround systems in my house. I have two Samsung tvs which both have the Emby App. They both stream 5.1 no problem. I even have an Apple TV plugged into one of them with the Emby App and it also streams 5.1. Both of my Samsung tvs have fire sticks plugged in with the Emby app. One is the 4K Max stick that I use mostly on my bigger tv. The Emby app will only stream 2.0 Dolby Digital. Fire stick streams 5.1 on Netflix and HBO Max so it's not the fire stick for the other apps. It seems to be the app itself on the fire stick alone. I cannot figure it out. I've tried all sorts of setting. I dont see a pass thru option through playback settings on the app. Do I need to go to a computer and access Emby that way to change a setting that isn't available through the app settings on the fire stick? I'm so dumbfounded. I had 5.1 earlier on the Firestick Emby app and now it doesn't work on any Firestick. thoughts?????
Luke 42077 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
Tophicles 39 Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Sounds like the same issue I'm experiencing ... following.
visproduction 315 Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Lots of postings about this: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Firestick+Amazon+Dolby+5.1+direct+playback+limitation+error&ia=web https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=G7AGVQCJXEERZJQ8
Solution brianfriske 3 Posted January 27 Author Solution Posted January 27 Ok everyone, surround sound on the Emby app is now working on all Firesticks. Here was the problem for whatever reason. The app store currently has TWO Emby apps. The newest, most updated one doe not seem to support surround sound. This is version 3.5.28 with the latest update being January 25, 2026. NO IDEA why the newest latest version isn't working but most likely a bug on Emby's part. The older app version 2.1.29a last updated November 30, 2025 works. Under playback settings I had to select Convert Unsupported Audio to Dolby Digital. Selecting this option in the other app does not work. I hope this helps. I will attached pictures to show what I just typed. Thanks 1
