UCM_1 10 Posted June 11 Posted June 11 At the next stable version release, I'll attempt to switch back to the stable branch and we'll see how it goes then. However, while I certainly don't know the inner workings of Emby, it seems unlikely that that would be the issue (everything works properly, locally and remotely, on Android, ios, or over the web. Only Roku has an issue when remote). Yes, it happens with any user. When you ask me to create one with a "simple home screen", I'm not 100% sure what you're asking. Are you indicating that I should create one that does not have access to any library? Or do you mean something else? Another factoid -- the remote side of the attempted connections have not been the fastest. Does Roku have a timeout that is more restrictive than Android/ios/etc?

Hi there, please attach the Emby server log from when the problem occurred: How to Report a Problem Thanks!

I suspect you have either a lot of libraries or some complex new home screen sections defined and one of them may be timing out - but only remotely. Can you create a new user and just have "My Media" on their home screen and see if it ever crashes? Then, gradually build up other rows for that user until the problem occurs.

Creating a user with access to only Playlist (no way to turn that one off?) does seem to allow it to work almost 100% of the time -- but even then it still fails on occasion. There doesn't appear to be any single access that causes it to fail. But it appears that the more added, the more likely it is to fail. (I've mentioned this previously, but I do want to stress that everything works as intended via the browser, by the android emby app, and by the ios emby app. It's only Roku that has an issue). ** I don't believe it's related to the issue above, but one thing I noticed is that the "Collections" item can not be removed from a user's menu. It shows up no matter what -- with pictures of library items on the menu folder. Going into the Collections library, if the user has no access to anything else, doesn't show anything, but it is still a bit of an issue -- not a big deal if an empty Collections library shows up in the menu, but the fact that it shows pictures of items in your library (that the user doesn't have access) is a problem.
ebr 16457 Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Thanks for the tests. I believe some of the requests must be timing out and the app is not handling that well.

ebr 16457 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Okay, so I believe we've solved the crashing and a new release of the app will go out tonight. However, the real problem here is that, at least one of, your home screen row queries is timing out and the timeout is 60 seconds so this is a VERY slow query. We should try and determine exactly which one it is. What is the upload bandwidth on your server?
UCM_1 10 Posted 51 minutes ago Posted 51 minutes ago The upload bandwidth on the server is 300Mb/s. And there is no sluggishness on the Android Emby app, IOS Emby App, or the web, in the testing I've done. It's not, as far as I can tell, a server side response time issue. The remote Rokus in question are all on what might be considered slow connections on today's standards -- cellular and DSL. But not so slow that there should be issue simply loading a menu. This is only an issue when remote Rokus connect -- the local Rokus never have any issue -- so this next question seems unlikely to help lead to the cause... But, in my case, there is mildly restrictive firewall that has some limits on what anything on the server side of the firewall can access on the internet. Is there anything the server may be trying to reach out to when a Roku connects, that it doesn't try to reach out to when any of the other Emby apps connect?

No. 4 minutes ago, UCM_1 said: The remote Rokus in question are all on what might be considered slow connections on today's standards -- cellular and DSL That is undoubtedly the culprit. 4 minutes ago, UCM_1 said: But not so slow that there should be issue simply loading a menu. With the new upcoming server the home screen is much more complicated than "a menu". You have the ability to create some very complex queries for individual rows and a lot of rows. How many libraries do you have and can you show me exactly what home screen rows are defined?
ebr 16457 Posted 44 minutes ago Posted 44 minutes ago Actually, before even providing that info, please go into the settings in our app on the remote Roku and turn on "Debug Options". Then exit and re-start the app, wait about 2 minutes doing nothing and then go up to the user menu and select "Send Logs..." Finally, come back here and tell me what time you did that. Thanks.
