DarthUrsa 0 Posted December 9, 2025 Posted December 9, 2025 Hey, Coming over from Plex here. I can't find any audio settings in the client settings on Xbox, and no options to passthrough atmos / dts:x signals. I've seen some replies from the dev's here that PCM is preferred. And I do get that, except not for Atmos (EAC3 or TrueHD) and DTS:X. I've ran some of the TrueHD demo clips on Emby and Plex. And the difference is night and day. Apart from this Emby looks like a very solid replacement to Plex. Hope there is a way to turn this on? - Looks like there is on the Windows version, but can't see the Audio phane at all in the client settings on Xbox.

Right! 31 minutes ago, DarthUrsa said: I've seen some replies from the dev's here that PCM is preferred. And I do get that, except not for Atmos (EAC3 or TrueHD) and DTS:X. You're right. PCM uncompressed is better than AC-3 and the likes, but clearly, cannot transport those two formats. 31 minutes ago, DarthUrsa said: I've ran some of the TrueHD demo clips on Emby and Plex. We don't have that and it's no longer endorsed by MS, because the Xbox can do something that no other device can do (afaik, not sure about PS): It decodes Atmos and can at the same time re-encode Atmos for the TV connection - i.e. it has a live Atmos encoder (so it can for example mix-in its own navigation sounds etc.). This means: it should work when your Xbox itself is properly set up for Atmos audio.
DarthUrsa 0 Posted December 9, 2025 Author Posted December 9, 2025 Hmm. Strange. But also makes sense, the receiver is always showing a Atmos signal. No matter what the Xbox is running. So it's either some issue (probably on my end, I guess) or the Xbox Atmos encoder is "duller" than the Atmos encoder in my reciever. Emby is showing Direct Play TrueHD. But I have to disable audio transcoding on in user settings for my user. So that might be masking some other issue I have with my setup. The clientemby.log file should probably say something about this. But for the life of me, I cant open the log file. I can see the server logs from my Xbox, but not the local log file,

Maybe try a few different files (which are directplaying without needing to force). I have no Atmos device, but during the beta people had confirmed it working, but I'm not sure over which audio format it was carried in those cases. 52 minutes ago, DarthUrsa said: The clientemby.log file should probably say something about this.
