Kmckinley 1 Posted November 18, 2025 Posted November 18, 2025 (edited) Hi all, I’m having an issue with the Emby Android app on my new "Fire TV Stick 4K Select" device. The app installs normally from the Amazon Appstore, but when I launch it I immediately get this message: “This app is currently unavailable in your location.” I’m located in Austin, Texas, so the app should definitely be available here. What’s strange is that I also have a Fire TV Stick HD, and the Emby Android app works on that device with no problems. My "Fire TV Stick 4K Select" device is also listed as a compatible device. So far I’ve tried: Reinstalling the app Restarting the device Confirming my Amazon account region is set to the U.S. Did a factory reset multiple times. Has anyone seen this before or know what might cause a location restriction on only one Fire TV device? Thanks in advance. Edited November 18, 2025 by Kmckinley Clarified that my "Fire TV Stick 4K Select" device is listed as compatible 1
Luke 42077 Posted November 18, 2025 Posted November 18, 2025 HI, that's bizarre. Are you behind a VPN by any chance? 1
Kmckinley 1 Posted November 18, 2025 Author Posted November 18, 2025 No I'm not. I actually bought this device for my daughter who is in college and on a totally different network. I actually thought a VPN might be the issue, but the device didn't have one. So I gave him my HD stick where Emby works and brought the "Fire TV Stick 4K Select" back home. I'm 100% confident we don't have any VPN's on this network.
ebr 16169 Posted November 18, 2025 Posted November 18, 2025 This is one of the new Vega OS devices, right? They are delivering our Android apps on that platform via their own relay/emulation of sorts. I wonder if that is restricted due to bandwidth or other conditions... 1
Kmckinley 1 Posted November 18, 2025 Author Posted November 18, 2025 Hello @ebr Yes this is the a new Vega OS device.

OK we are currently working on a native Vega app. Until then, our existing fire tv app gets loaded via Amazon's cloud stream feature. Are you still having this issue? 1
jblofi 1 Posted November 21, 2025 Posted November 21, 2025 Hi, I’m also having this same issue with a fire stick I just bought. I’m based in Australia however. I can only see the Emby app and not the Emby for Fire TV app on my appstore on the fire stick, and it says it’s not compatible with my fire stick when i try to download via my phone 1

Looking forward to the native Vega app. I hate how locked down their new OS is, but the performance of it is a lot better. 1

Thanks for the great work @Luke -- I was wondering why the new "Fire TV Stick 4K Select" was more than $10AUD cheaper than the Fire TV Stick I bought myself only 2 days prior to ordering the 4K Select for a friend -- he is now unable to install Emby at all (in Australia). Emby and Emby for Fire-Stick show up as suggestions when searching the Amazon App Store but clicking on either search result displays other streamers like Plex -- Emby is not even shown for a possible install. I thought Emby may have upset Amazon in some way I hope the Linux/Vega version of Emby isn't too far away 1

Can you try searching for our standard android app (Just "Emby" on Amazon and "Emby for Android on Google) on the same device's app store and see how that compares? Thanks.
jojo1992 0 Posted December 1, 2025 Posted December 1, 2025 Hello, I'm in France and I'm experiencing the same problem as BigAussie. When I search for Emby, Emby and Emby for Fire TV appear in the suggestions, but when I click on them, other apps appear. I'm sending you screenshots.
Luke 42077 Posted December 1, 2025 Posted December 1, 2025 Ok this vega platform is still very new. I would suggest to keep trying it occasionally as it may get corrected.
jojo1992 0 Posted December 1, 2025 Posted December 1, 2025 Okay, thank you @Lukefor your suggestion. I'll check from time to time to see if Emby is available. Do you know if the native Vega app will be available in a few weeks, a few months, or later in 2026?

Hi @LukeI am facing the same issue here in Germany. I reat all threads here but didn't get if it is currently possible or not to get Emby running on that new OS. Merry Christmas Sascha 1
Luke 42077 Posted December 25, 2025 Posted December 25, 2025 Hi, yes hopefully we'll have something soon for these new VegaOS devices. Thanks.
BigAussie 2 Posted December 26, 2025 Posted December 26, 2025 Thank you for the feedback @Luke-- unfortunately I am still unable to install Emby for Android as it does not appear for this new VegaOS device in the Amazon Store in Australia. I will try once per week to see when it becomes available and let you know how it goes. Merry Christmas 1
visproduction 315 Posted December 26, 2025 Posted December 26, 2025 I ran into this in the US some time ago for Firestick. The workaround was turning on Developer mode inside Firestick, getting the Downloader app and then finding Emby through that. Maybe this will work with VegaOS. This problem is sort of typical. Firestick wants to insulate it's users from any 3rd party problem apps. That way Amazon pays less answering support queries. Even sending back a standard response can grow to a larger support issue and cause bad word of mouth. I've worked with customer support for many companies, but always at the tech advising level, where I informed support what bugs are happening. This is just a guess. I can dig through and find step by step, but it's probably out of date. Just search for this online. There are a lot of posts. There may be a few in the Emby forum as well. Hope that helps. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=downloader+app+for+Firestick+change+to+developer+mode&ia=web 1

In the EU firesticks are notorious for being used to watch football. The leagues claim they lose billions a year in fees to people who can't watch their teams legally due to black outs. Everyone should just refuse to buy new Amazon devices as you no longer own your device as per the TOS you have to agree to. 1
