heffeque 78 Posted November 12, 2025 Posted November 12, 2025 Did a vacuum on, restarted, shutdown when finished, installed 4.9.1.90, reduced the database cache size to 250 MB (I had it in 768 MB, but that's too much on the 4.9 branch), vacuumed again, restarted, checked metadata that I had changed/blocked: still there. So... no issues with metadata in my case. Cheers!
heffeque 78 Posted November 12, 2025 Author Posted November 12, 2025 (edited) Welp... spoke too soon. All of a sudden, while I was testing playback of "difficult" videos (8K, transcoding, etc.) Emby server decided to refresh all my metadata I triggered some metadata refresh on a few videos in particular, but certainly nothing that should trigger a whole system metadata refresh. Good thing I don't have much to edit, but... yup, that definitely was inconvenient. embyserver.txt Edited November 12, 2025 by heffeque

heffeque 78 Posted November 12, 2025 Author Posted November 12, 2025 (edited) Maybe this helps? -> It seems that it has combined some of the films that I had as separate movies/folders. Example: I had a movie in 2 versions (one normal, the other in 3D) in 2 separate folders ("Frozen II" and "Frozen II 3D SBS") so that they would appear as "separate movies". Now they both appear as one movie with 2 different version. They're easy to distinguish due to the different file names, so... somewhat OK, but still not cool. Why not cool? Because I know how to use the "versions" thing, but my family might not, so they might choose the wrong version and not know what the heck is happening, nor how to fix it. Example 2: Also I have "I am Legend" with both endings inside the same file (theatrical vs alternate). I have no way of showing both version on the Movie menu anymore. Also playback of the alternate ending doesn't work on the Windows app, and "barely" works on the web app by manually selecting the last chapter (and you have to "magically" know when in the movie to go to the last chapter so as not to watch one ending and then the other ending). Example 3: I have "Coco" in 3D (and only in 3D, no normal version), and for whatever reason it changed the title of the movie from "(3D) Coco" to "Coco". I have the title with the "(3D)" prefix to distinguish it from normal movies. Without using the "3D" filter (which I know how to use, not my family) you could see at a glance what movies were in 3D. heffeque 78 Posted November 12, 2025 Author Posted November 12, 2025 (edited) Just as a heads up. I re-added the "(3D)" in the "Tittle" and "Sort Tittle" of my 3D movies. I then added non-3D versions to the movies that didn't have a non-3D version. Then a refresh to add those versions resulted in the removal of the "(3D)" tag on them again, even when the field was locked. Subsequent refreshes when there are no versions added/removed isn't removing the tags. Edited November 12, 2025 by heffeque

How have you configured the automatic grouping options on the library?
heffeque 78 Posted November 12, 2025 Author Posted November 12, 2025 It seems that it's enabled, yes. I didn't change any configurations when going from 4.8 to 4.9, so either something got automatically enabled, or the way it was handled before is very different now, as in: with 4.8, movies in different folders would not group, only movies in the same folder. So if I wanted them grouped, I'd put them in the same folder, and if I wanted them separated, I'd leave them in separate folders. What confuses me also is why metadata keeps getting overwritten even when locked.
Luke 42077 Posted November 12, 2025 Posted November 12, 2025 I would set it to how you want it and then run a library scan.
heffeque 78 Posted November 13, 2025 Author Posted November 13, 2025 And how is that with the current options. Just based on files? (I'm assuming that only based on files means what I had with 4.8?)
Solution Luke 42077 Posted November 13, 2025 Solution Posted November 13, 2025 It sounds like you want it to be just based on files.
heffeque 78 Posted November 14, 2025 Author Posted November 14, 2025 I guess... A heads up on the change of behavior would have been nice. And having locked metadata overwritten seems like a strange decision, but... anyway. Thanks for your help!
Luke 42077 Posted November 14, 2025 Posted November 14, 2025 Locked metadata does not get overwritten.

heffeque 78 Posted November 16, 2025 Author Posted November 16, 2025 No need. I'm aware that my use-case is very niche, so I'll work around it.
