Pomah 2 Posted November 8, 2025 Posted November 8, 2025 Hello, I am having difficulty connecting emby client apps to my emby server. I have tried the Apple TV+ app, the Roku app, Android app and my Bell Fibe TV app (Android). I keep getting a "Unable to reach/connect to server". I am using a desktop computer running Widows 11. I have successfully installed the emby server on the desktop and it successfully accessed the media drive/folders. I have reviewed the emby documentation on Connecting from Client Apps and followed the instructions: double checked the IP address and port and ensured the appropriate ports were opened in my firewall (this was correctly done by emby). I am not using a VPN on my desktop computer. I am not using the web app at app.emby.media. I am trying to connect to the server on my internal network, not remotely. Please note, I recently switched from Plex to emby. I did not have any of these connectivity issues with Plex (ie: I did not make any network changes from the Plex settings). Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if you need more information. Thanks, Pomah L.

Pomah 2 Posted November 8, 2025 Author Posted November 8, 2025 Sorry, one more piece of information: I am NOT trying to connect using Emby Connect. Thanks, Pomah L.
howllor 26 Posted November 8, 2025 Posted November 8, 2025 Are you able to access it through a web browser with the ip address and port?
Pomah 2 Posted November 8, 2025 Author Posted November 8, 2025 I did try that (on my iPad and Android phone), but it did not connect. Pomah L.
Solution pwhodges 2012 Posted November 8, 2025 Solution Posted November 8, 2025 Is the network interface on your Windows machine set to Public (wrong) or Private (correct)? Paul 1
Pomah 2 Posted November 9, 2025 Author Posted November 9, 2025 I had checked these settings earlier and I have re-checked. Network discovery and file/printer sharing is activated for Private Networks, but de-activated for Public Networks. Is there another place I need to check? Pomah L.
pwhodges 2012 Posted November 9, 2025 Posted November 9, 2025 But which network type is it set to? Paul
Pomah 2 Posted November 9, 2025 Author Posted November 9, 2025 When I go to "Network & internet > Ethernet" screen, it states I am not connected. I also do not see how to "connect" it. I am attaching a sceenshot of that screen to show you. I am not super tech-savvy, so I may have missed obvious things. I do really appreciate the help you are providing! Pomah L. Ethernet Screen.pdf
Lessaj 467 Posted November 9, 2025 Posted November 9, 2025 (edited) You mentioned it's a desktop but you're not using ethernet? Are you using wifi instead? While not ideal since ethernet is best for a server it will still work, and it has a similar network type setting. Edited November 9, 2025 by Lessaj
Pomah 2 Posted November 10, 2025 Author Posted November 10, 2025 Sorry, I didn't mention that I was connecting via Wi-Fi. I didn't think it was important (now I know). When I went to the "Network & internet > Wi-Fi" screen and checked the network type, it was set to Public. I changed it to Private, my client app instantly connected! Thanks pwhodges and Lessaj for your assistance. It is much appreciated! Pomah L. 2
