Jellyseerr can no longer connect to emby remotely

I do not know if this is a problem with jellyseerr or with emby, and i do not know when it occurred because i only check jellyseerr remotely once in a while.

If I log into jellyseerr as an emby user, using it's local ip-address, there is no problem. If I go to my remote jellyseerr address, let's call it jellyseer.example.com, i can see the login form but it's giving me an "unable to connect to emby server" error. I assumed that jellyseerr would still use the local address for emby, even though I'm accessing it remotely? My remote emby address at emby.example.com is working and is accessible. In the jellyseerr settings, emby is connected and it can sync and everything.

This is happening on a win10 machine, with emby running natively and jellyseerr in docker. Remote access is set up with Pangolin running on a VPS. It used to work with no issue, and as far as I know, I haven't made any changes. I've only updated both emby and jellyseerr. Last time I know for certain that it worked was sept 16.

I don't know where to start. When I check the logs for jellyseerr from when I try to login remotely, it's giving me the following error

2025-10-20T18:02:19.964Z [error][Auth]: The provided Jellyfin is invalid or the server is not reachable.{"error":"INVALID_URL","hostname":"http://undefined:undefinedundefined","status":404}

The same log entry from when I log in locally:

2025-10-20T18:06:55.108Z [info][API]: Found matching Emby user; updating user with Emby{"ip":"::ffff:172.18.0.1","jellyfinUsername":"MyUsername"}

I don't see anything in the emby logs at all, but I'm attaching it either way.

Any help appreciated, and especially any ideas about why it suddenly stopped working.

Hi, are you able to connect remotely using Emby apps? Have you reported this to Jellyseer?

I've got no problem connecting to emby remotely, either through apps or the remote web address.

I have not reported it to jellyseerr devs yet, did not know if it's an emby problem or a jellyseerr problem.

Gonna reach out to the jellyseerr devs and see what they say, I'll keep you updated.

First thing I would look at is how it’s trying to connect, meaning what address and if that is correct.

Got help from fallenbagel. For some reason the settings.json of jellyseerr wasn't properly being loaded into memory. Backing up and then deleting settings.json and settings.json.old, and then going through the setup process anew, from the remote URL, did the trick.
