Skip Intro markers not being generated despite scheduled task completing

OK figured it out - moved the files out of the directory & did a scan. I was thinking there was something within Emby to remove them from the library - found delete and it was going to delete the files from disk. Realized my mistakes...

- Call The Midwife Season 15 removed from the library (with no intro skips) and scanned library

- Confirmed episodes missing from library

- Imported the files again, ran a full library file scan

- No indication that the Detect Episode Intros task was going to run - it is set to run on a schedule and on new episode detection.

- Confirmed that the episodes are back in the library (including watched flags - that's a nice bonus)

- Manually ran Detect Episode Intros task - it completed in 0 seconds.

Do you have it set to run intro detection when media is imported into that library? CreateTitleFingerprint can be seen running against those episodes, which extracts the audio for finger printing. Example:

It's in my "TV" library and

And... shoulda tested. I just fired up the first unwatched episode and I do get a "Skip Intro" button. I confirmed before trying the above that it did not.

Now the question is, why didn't it generate it when it first imported on the 1st or 2nd of March...

ok. lets compare logs for when it did not and when it did. please give me names and timestamps and the logs

I did update the documentation here recently to specify that detection is only run when there are at least 2 episodes in a season

My earlier response was premature. The log you provided does show that intro markers were detected for Call the Midwife season 15 with 8 episodes having intro markers. 

The media was added at 17:30. By 17:32:28 we identified the markers

Call the Midwife ended season 15 with episode 8, aired on 8 Mar 2026. It was downloaded on the 8th, as well. The most recent episode we've watched was episode 6, aired 15 Feb, downloaded on 15 Feb. 
My log history only goes back to March 13th, so I don't have logs from previous new episode detections of the show to provide. 

Next time I note a new episode that doesn't have a Skip Intro, I'll make note of it, grab the log for when it downloaded and ping you here. I appreciate your willingness to dig into this!

With different timezones - i actually want you to tell me the time at your end when the skip intro button was seen and which episode it was. So info on button not showing and button showing. times, app name/version, episode number.

I can see from the log you provided that at your time 17:32:28 on the 16th the server had the intro markers available for the 8 episodes. So were the markers not showing after this ? which client app ? what time? and you menioned that you got a skip intro button - was that the same client app and episode and what time?

After 17:32:28 on the 16th March, a fresh launch of an emby client app should get the information about the intro markers.

TBH, it's been a number of days since I did this and I wasn't making note of the time stamps...

Prior to making this comment (by probably 30 minutes - it took some time to do some searching to find this thread), I'd tried playing S15E7 and the Skip Intro option was not there. I ran through the delete/import/scan process prior to the above linked comment posted at 1739 local time. I then stepped away, waiting for a response and did something totally different for a while.

You followed up at 1914, and in response to that I posted at 1934 with the comment at the bottom that the Skip Intro button did appear, but that I hadn't tested. My presumption was that the 0 seconds of processing time indicated that nothing had happened - that presumption was wrong. It would have been shortly before I posted that comment, so roughly 1930-1934 local time when I checked S15E7 and the skip intro was there. 

I'm playing the video on Kodi with the Emby for Kodi Next Gen plugin interfacing with Emby. I did not reboot my Kodi box, reset the E4K plugin, or any other actions. Upon import, Emby notifies Kodi of new files, and the E4K plugin pulls whatever data is currently available (you'd have to ask quickmic for the details on how).

We can ignore everything before you deleted and re-added season 15 - because the test was to see what happens when you add the season

The provided log covers the time period from midnight on the 16th March to 17:37:11. The log shows: 

At 17:27 Season 15 was removed

At 17:30 Season 15 was re-added

At 17:32:28 intro markers were available from the server

The only evidence of any playback for call the midwife was prior to all this - at 17:08 using Emby for Kodi Next Gen/KodiPi to play S15 E07 and E08. As we have no evidence/logs for the time the episodes were added/scanned before 17:08, we need to concentrate on what happened after you removed and addedd season 15 and the logs show that the markers were created and in place by 17:32:28 and provided you did a fresh launch of a client app after this, then the markers should be present

The server runs at GMT-4 and your post with the log shows me a time of posting as 21:39 GMT which would be 17:39 your time. The emby server log was captured just after 17:37. So should be ok. What happened in the previous scan of Season 15 we don't know but with this new scan  after removal and adding the season, it appears to be ok

After deleting & adding Season 15, I started played S15E07 and the `Skip Intro` button was there. This should be all the evidence you need. It DID work on reprocessing. There is nothing further to look into at this point.

Unfortunately, I no longer have logs from the original import of any of these episodes, so I cannot post them to troubleshoot why it didn't generate the markers the first time through. 
I will continue to monitor shows as I import them to see if I find any that do not get a Skip Intro marker and will report back ASAP with the original import log. 

 

I really appreciate your dogged tenacity in wanting to dig further into this, but at this point, there is nothing further to dig into. It is now working as expected, but I'll keep my eyes open for any future failure and report back ASAP if I find one.

The timings I was referring relate to the earlier post and from the timestamp I see for you being at GMT-4, it was at 17:39 with the emby server log covering time to 17:37 and season 15 was removed at 17:27, added and rescanned at 17:30 and all markers were in place by 17:32:28 - so issue was resolved then

What happened before that is unknown as we have no logs covering the times when each of the 8 episodes added to the library

So be on the lookout for such issues and capture the logs soon. We keep logs for 3 days by default - these would be named embyserver.txt for the latest and embyserver-xxxxx.txt for earlier with logs cycled every 24 hours
