Issues with playlists 4.8.11.0

Hello again,

Background:

I'm having more problems, this time with importing play lists. I've got a AS-604T (yes, it's really old and it's rad that it's still running - running ADM 3.5.9.RWM1 for those keeping score), my Emby servers wouldn't start after upgrade to 4.9.0.70 --> 4.9.1.80 because of C++ libs no are longer included with the Emby builds, they are assumed to be in ADM (Asustore NAS OS.) Now I've downgraded to 4.8.11.0 to get things working. I tried downgrading to 4.9.0.70 but that would no longer work for some reason even though I was previously using it.

I was able to rescue some of my playlists from the server before I downgraded and now, I'm trying to import them by dropping them into a folder in my music library and rescanning the library. I'm experiencing two issues 1) Emby is not importing anything and 2) Any playlist entry that Emby doesn't recognize is removed from the file.

I wanted to quickly import some files to get a basic level of functionally back for my users while I rebuild the server in my spare time, it's turned a couple hours at this point.

Issue 1:

  • This file was previous working under Emby 4.9.0.70 and before that it was working under 4.8.11.0
  • my music files reside in this location on my NAS: /volume1/Entertainment Center/Music
  • This is the format that all the entries were in when I pulled the playlists off the server  ../../../../../volume1/Entertainment Center/Music/(artists - album - track path to music goes on here). Emby changed the file path as originally all files had the full path, this was a long time ago and I don't really care since it used to work.
  • I'm trying to import m3u files by dropping them into the library and then initiating a scan of the library.

Here are different ways that I've tried to make the path work and have been rejected by Emby:

/volume1/Entertainment Center/Music/Collective Soul/Dosage/07 - Collective Soul - Run.flac
\\myserver\Entertainment Center\Music\Alan Jackson\Drive\07 - Alan Jackson - Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning).flac
../../../../../volume1/Entertainment Center/Music/3 Doors Down/3 Doors Down/10 - 3 Doors Down - Runaway.flac

Each of these that I've tried hasn't work and emby has removed every single entry from the file.

Issue 2:

Emby removes any entries in the playlist files that it cannot find files for, this is a bug or defect in my opinion and needs to be fixed. Emby should leave entries that it can't find, there are different ways it can handle them, for example the UI could highlight files it can't find, the user can then fix the issue. I use playlists quite a lot and having Emby just decide to remove entries could lead to my playlists becoming useless (all the data gone!). Also, sometimes I rename files or move them to work on them with the intent of putting them back later. I don't want playlist entries for these files removed.

Any help getting these playlists working is apricated :)

Hi, you probably don’t have the right number of ../ right?

Start from the folder that the playlist file is in and walk up the folder tree to see how many you need.

Shouldn't the fully qualified path work also though? I'll have to try this when I get back home. Thanks.

Yes, as long as it's the same exact path used in emby library setup.

I'd used the wrong path to create the library, something like /share/Entertainment Center/Music/ and not /volume1/Entertainment Center/Music/. In my setup both work, the first one is for CIFS sharing. Once I switched the path everything worked without editing. Thanks for leading me to the solution.
