phunzie 42 Posted October 8, 2025 Posted October 8, 2025 I've been using Emby for years. A few days ago I noticed that when I add new media files to my media drives they are not automatically getting added to my Emby Library. I now have to manually run Emby's "Scan Library Files" to get the media to show in my library. I have not made any changes to my Settings, and I've verified "Enable real time monitoring" is still activated. Running Emby Server 4.9.1.80 Advice?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 8, 2025 Posted October 8, 2025 Probably need to see a server log for when something was added. May need to enable debug logging also.
Solution phunzie 42 Posted October 9, 2025 Author Solution Posted October 9, 2025 i downloaded the installation package and reinstalled over old install....working fine again
Luke 42077 Posted October 9, 2025 Posted October 9, 2025 39 minutes ago, phunzie said: i downloaded the installation package and reinstalled over old install....working fine again It could just be that you didn't give it enough time for the realtime monitor to do it's thing. I can't imagine reinstalling over your old install would make any difference whatsoever. Best to look at a specific example. Thanks.
phunzie 42 Posted October 11, 2025 Author Posted October 11, 2025 you're right, reinstalling didn't actually solve the problem...but it's not a matter of waiting either, as waiting several hours after adding new titles didn't help....but manually "Scan Library files" did the trick immediately i'll upload a server log thanks

phunzie 42 Posted October 14, 2025 Author Posted October 14, 2025 so because of your question regarding the type of drive, i decided to perform a test by adding a new title to another HDD, E...and new media added to E appears to be identified automatically properly weird, as i've used F in the past to store hundreds of titles without issue

Luke 42077 Posted October 14, 2025 Posted October 14, 2025 We might need to see a log with debug logging enabled.
phunzie 42 Posted October 15, 2025 Author Posted October 15, 2025 i added 4 test media files and the only one that was added automatically was the one on E: , Halloween 4 , the other 3 only were only added after manual Library Scan (log attached) F:\Media\Movies >> Halloween 1 (added only after manual scan) F:\Media\Movies-Test1 >> Halloween 2 (added only after manual scan) F:\Movies-Test2 >> Halloween 3 (added only after manual scan) E:\Media\Movies >> Halloween 4 (auto added) embyserver_20251015_1134.txt

phunzie 42 Posted October 23, 2025 Author Posted October 23, 2025 (edited) Yes, as I mentioned in my previous post above, only the test media file on E: caused a real time monitor trigger, and “auto added” the media Halloween 4 But none of the other 3 test files added to 3 different test folders on F: drive were found by real-time monitoring. Only by manually running Library Scan were they found/added. So it appears it’s only the F drive that is being ignored by real-time monitoring. It’s worked fine for years. I’ve tried changing the drive label to G, but that didn’t help. Is there a way to clear something in Emby to get real-time monitoring working again on this drive? Edited October 23, 2025 by phunzie
phunzie 42 Posted October 25, 2025 Author Posted October 25, 2025 and just noticed that newly added TV Shows get picked up fine by Real Time Monitoring on F:, so it's just new Movies that don't get added by RTM on F:
Luke 42077 Posted November 5, 2025 Posted November 5, 2025 Hi, are you still having an issue with this?
phunzie 42 Posted November 5, 2025 Author Posted November 5, 2025 yes, new movies added to my F drive no longer get triggered by Real Time Monitoring, although new TV shows added to the drive still get picked up properly by RTM...other drives continue to work properly with RTM of movies i guess i could try removing the F drive/media from my Emby library and then re-adding it...but my concern is that when the media gets re-added the "Date Added" tag will get reset and all the titles on the drive will then show as recently added
Neminem 1518 Posted November 5, 2025 Posted November 5, 2025 Have you tried unticking the RTM option, restart. Then Tick it again and restart. Add new media and see what happens.
phunzie 42 Posted November 5, 2025 Author Posted November 5, 2025 i just tried unticking, restarting/rebooting, ticking again, restarting/rebooting, and unfortunately new movie files added to F: are still not being identified by RTM
