user84 46 Posted October 2, 2025 Posted October 2, 2025 I've been having issues with Emby giving me an error every time I log in saying that it's "unable to connect to the configured server." So I decided to uninstall and reinstall and start from fresh. Even after uninstalling the app, when I reinstall and open the app, it lists my server and the existing users. How is this possible?

Server announces its presence on the network so any app can auto-discover it without needing to input server details. As for users, those users are registered on the server, if you do not want to see all/any of them listed, there are options in each user settings to hide them on local/remote networks and/or on devices they've never signed-in from.

I didn't expect the app to automatically be able to discover my server and the users associated with that server. If I uninstall and reinstall the app, I assume all data is wiped and the app can see nothing from a server it's never logged into. Are you saying that upon fresh install, the Emby app will automatically discover any server on the network and its users? Edited October 2, 2025 by user84

If UDP 7359 port (used for local network discovery) open on the server machine - yes. Edited October 2, 2025 by GrimReaper
ebr 16169 Posted October 2, 2025 Posted October 2, 2025 Yes, the app will automatically discover your server on the network. If you don't want your users visible, there are options for that in each of the user's setup on the server. I suggest turning on just the third option. 1

Regarding this separate issue of getting the continued error of "unable to connect to the configured server", should I create a new topic in the forum?
