I have 4 roku's and only one is behaving this way.  I can start any video file and after a few minutes emby closes back to the roku homepage.  It's a 4800X Roku Ultra

Logs have been sent from the Roku.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Emby, it didn't help.

Network connectivity is good because I can stream from the spectrum app for more than an hour without issue.  This just started yesterday morning.

Hi, I don't know if this will matter, but are you able to update to Emby Server 4.8.11? You're on a pretty old release at this point of 4.8.1

Hi.  Your Roku appears to be running out of memory.  Can you explain the exact steps you are going through to make this happen as well as exactly what you played?

Thanks.

I had to reboot the PC several times to force the update but it seems to have fixed the problem, a file has been playing continuously for 30 minutes.  One thing to note is that Roku was working Monday morning, my daughter corrected me on my timing so my OP is incorrect in that regard.  The only thing that changed that I can find is this, in the alerts:

DLNA Updated to 1.5.3 on SERVER
9/22/25, 12:19 PM

My guess is something broke badly with that DLNA update that is specific to that Roku.  The other 3 rokus would play the same file no issues.

As to the memory issues, there was nothing special.
1) Open emby on the roku
2) Select any video file and press play.  It didn't matter what type of file, movie tv series old files  new files.  I tried many different ones.
3) it would play for a period of time.
4) Emby would close back to the Roku home screen.

@HHTEXHow many apps do you have installed on that Roku device? When you choose Emby does it launch immediately or does it show it percentage of install when you start up?

You can add an SD Card to your Roku Ultra which will be used as a cache to allow you to store more apps in a precompiled format. That way they launch immediately instead of having to be compiled each time you start them.

The issue was likely related to the older sever version having an incompatibility with something causing the memory footprint to swell. Like not requesting properly sized images and that kind of thing.

If you continue to have this issue please let us know as soon as you can. This type of error is worrying when we cannot track down the root cause.

The issue is resolved.

Emby always launched immediately.  I know  what you're referring too and on the older Roku's I had to install a memory card many years ago, it doesn't appear to be an issue with this one normally.

ETA: suspecting this might of been an issue long before I posted I deleted several apps off of the unit and made sure everything was up to date.  Even after deleting apps it persisted.  What we did notice is that once we tried to watch something the time to forced shutdown of the app decreased.
