artatgray 8 Posted September 8, 2025 Posted September 8, 2025 Before something stopped it from working, the highlighted metadata in the screenshot used to be displayed on my television whenever I navigated to content using Emby (client) on Android. Then, it suddenly stopped doing so and I don't recall changing any setting that would prevent it. Which setting do I check to make sure I've not accidentally disabled it? Thanks in advance, Bill

Solution Luke 42077 Posted September 11, 2025 Solution Posted September 11, 2025 @artatgrayOK this change was deliberate and it was done to reduce resource consumption on these cast devices, or smart TV's with Chromecast built-in. What was happening was that between loading the metadata and displaying the full screen backdrop, and then clicking play while that stuff was still loading would cause playback to either take a really long time to start or fail altogether. Unfortunately these devices with chromecast built-in just cannot handle very much. Does that help ease the blow at all? It was done for a good reason. Thanks.
artatgray 8 Posted September 11, 2025 Author Posted September 11, 2025 Hi @Luke Yeah, I fully understand the reason. Thanks. 1
artatgray 8 Posted September 11, 2025 Author Posted September 11, 2025 @Luke What was the version number prior to the change, please? I'd like to rollback, if possible, the update to get the metadata displayed as I find it useful when company is around for sharing info about potential selections. I didn't notice any significant delays when streaming to my own CC Gen 2.. However, being in a single television setup where there's predominantly the only client accessing my server at a time for video, I just may have gotten fortunate in not actually stressing it. Thanks, Bill
Luke 42077 Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 Hi, it's not something you can roll back to because the change happened to our chromecast receiver app. We can always add options to control this.

Yes, please give us the option to enable it. I never had a problem with it on my ancient Chromecast Ultra That metadata display was a big help when we're trying to decide what to watch next. 1
mindhive 2 Posted October 21, 2025 Posted October 21, 2025 I'm assuming the ambient backdrop screensaver when casting was also affected by the change? I've been looking for months to figure out why that stopped working. Please add the option back to turn this on if desired. I never had any problems with playback either. Thanks!

Options to control this are certainly possible, although if you had the ability to turn it on and off then I think you'd see what i mean about media starting quicker and being more stable without it.
