dawuman 1 Posted September 5, 2025 Posted September 5, 2025 I download Blu-ray movies on my NAS and play them via Emby Windows. Whenever I select a PGSSUB subtitle, the server starts video transcoding, which causes playback to stutter. To avoid this, I started downloading SRT subtitle files and placing them in the movie folder. Emby recognizes and loads these SRT subtitles, but the following issue occurs: When playing in Emby for Windows, the SRT subtitles do not display. However, the same subtitles work correctly when playing in Microsoft Edge. My subtitle directory structure is as follows: System environment: Windows 11 Edge Version 139.0.3405.125 Emby Server 4.9.1.22 Emby Windows 2.234.2.0 Please help resolve this bug in Emby Windows.
dawuman 1 Posted September 5, 2025 Author Posted September 5, 2025 Another issue is that when a movie is in MKV format, selecting PGSSUB subtitles does not trigger transcoding, whereas with Blu-ray sources, it does. Is there a possibility that this will be resolved in future versions?

It can direct play them without any transcoding.
Luke 42077 Posted September 5, 2025 Posted September 5, 2025 Regarding the subtitles not showing up… Lets look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!

Neminem 1518 Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 Did you check your naming ? Subtitles Naming | Emby Documentation This does not look right to me. Also this is a BDMV direct rip, not sure it will work with external subs. srt or not.

As you can see in the player screenshot, I can already select that subtitle."
dawuman 1 Posted September 7, 2025 Author Posted September 7, 2025 And the subtitle can play and display normally in Emby Web, but it does not show in Emby for Windows. If I convert the subtitle into ASS format, it can also display correctly in Emby for Windows. However, having to convert SRT to ASS every time is too troublesome.

sweetpotato 0 Posted October 16, 2025 Posted October 16, 2025 I have the same problem with you. I solved the issue by converting the subtile to ass format. It works well
