When I press the button in the top right corner of my Android device and choose to select another Android device(casting)

that's currently playing music, I see the playlist on my own Android device. However, I can't control it—no next track, pause, or stop, and no volume control. Why can't I control it?

The other way around works fine. I play something on my Android device, select the other device, and can control it from my device correctly.

Where did you start the playback ?

If it was started on the device you want to control, then its a matter of master and slave.

Device starting playback is master, and you as viewer is slave.

As you already have discovered, the slave can't control the master 😉

However, it's not working perfectly. I'm now playing on the other device(slave) that I started from my own device(master). However, on my own device, I'm losing what I started, and I can't seem to retrieve it to take control again.

Of course, when I click on play again (right corner) I get the playlist as mentioned before, but no controls.

Edit: typo

Guess we need devs to answer.

And I guess they need server and android client logs both master and slave.,

Many thanks Neminem, it still plays fine on the other device, but on my device I really can't do anything with it anymore. I will also add the logs here. (I don't know how I can view the logs from an Android device, so I grabbed them from the Synology-server)

edit: another typo :)

I think its described here, how to send logs from android, Its near the bottom

Thanks, I'll wait and see if this is enough.

While I was talking to you, I was trying to play a YouTube-rip of 'Fien and Teun' for my son (because I couldn't control it anymore, this didn't work either).

After describing this problem in the community, I wanted to stop the playlist and swiped away the Android app(so its close) on the other Android device.

At that moment, Fien and Teun suddenly started playing on the device.??

HI, have you checked the remote control permissions for your user?

Posted

@luke, that's set up correctly.

This afternoon I discovered something else: the Emby app launched on the Oppo Reno-Z and I played something on my Oppo FindX5 (I selected "Play on" in the top right corner, ofcourse), but nothing happened until I went to the Reno-Z and activated the screen. Only then did the content start playing.

It also worked fine on the FindX5, but a few minutes later it stopped responding. I could open it again see the actually playlist, but I couldn't control it.

I have the log files for both devices, but I'm unable to send them at the moment. I'll do this later.

Under DLNA, DLNA "Play To" is enabled.
I checked the remote control permissions earlier, and they were enabled. However, I want to check again now, and strangely enough, I can't find them anymore.

Where can I find the options for remote control permissions?

Click on a user in emby user setup, then scroll down to the Remote Control section.

When I play Emby on another device (I'm controlling the Oppo Reno Z from the Oppo Findx5) that's connected to an amplifier in the garden/shed, it works fine as long as I keep the Emby window open in Android. When I use another app on my smartphone and then reopen Emby, the connection seems to be lost. If I then click the play button in the top right corner and select the Reno Z, the remote control partially reappears, but I can't see the playlist, for example, which is no longer there, but I can see pause and stop.

If I choose to activate the remote control again by restarting the Emby app on both devices, I can no longer establish a remote control connection.

I've shared quite a few logs here over the past few weeks. Have they even been looked at?

Yes but you described behavior that you hadn't mentioned earlier so I thought it was something different.

Are you able to take a video to demonstrate the problem?

I've now have on both devices the latest version, i'm going to test it again, my first impression was ok
