Support for ASS subtitles so they don't have to be extracted and converted to srt which results in transcode

longtime plex user here, really loving emby so far, but I'd like to request that ASS subtitles be given support to play as is without needing to be extracted and converted to srt which also results in them looking as good as they would if they played as is, and they also cause transcoding.

Hi, i use a samsung tablet and phone and use the external player mpv which results in direct play with ASS perfectly.

my issue is when i try to use an ios tablet or phone, or when i use my nvidia shield.

i've tried using several external players on nvidia shield including sideloading mpv, but for some reason even tho this results in direct playback, the shield struggles to play the file back resulting in the audio being out of sync with the video, which may be a shield problem instead of an emby problem, because when i use emby and let it transcode the file it plays the file fine, it's just that it's transcoded.

I think me and OP ate the same thing last night Sorry for double request.

We are talking emby theater or server across all devices should offer that option at least that's what I am talking about personally.

That being said the issue of ASS not playing well arises most often on mobile and the browser. On emby theater windows and multiple linux distros,  as far as I remember I did not have this issue. I never tried on smart tvs and others.

Shouldn’t happen on iOS or Android. Our apps can direct play ass sad without extraction.

sorry, I just verified that both my tablet and phone can direct play the ASS sub file without needing external player to do so. the aforementioned problems persist with my shield and ios transcoding the file, but i'll open a post in the appropriate space and close this thread.
