Morthamp 2 Posted July 21, 2025 Posted July 21, 2025 Hi, I have been running Emby Server (4.8.8.0) on my Synology DS218 (DSM 7.2.2-72806 Update 3) for quite a while with zero issues. I recently followed a prompt to upgrade to a newer Emby Server version (4.8.11.0). It looked like the upgrade went OK, and everything appeared to be OK until I spotted one movie that had become misidentified; clicking on the three dots lower RH corner now brings up a much reduced menu list that does not allow file ID checks, image searches etc. Why has this disappeared? I seem to be running in a much less capable (protected?) mode. I have also observed that the Manage Emby Server icon (cog in top RH corner) AND the Settings icon (head & shoulders icon) when selected present identical drop-down menus - that can't be right? Hopefully someone can advise on what's going on here? I am new to NASs etc, please be gentle Kevin
Luke 42077 Posted July 21, 2025 Posted July 21, 2025 Hi, what exactly do you mean by "file ID checks" ? What function are you looking for, the Identify function?
Morthamp 2 Posted July 23, 2025 Author Posted July 23, 2025 Hi Luke, Yes, the Identify function, also the ability to edit/search for images and a number of other "manipulation" functions. Apologies if this is a bit vague, but I'm querying menu items that are now missing, that I was used to having in the previous version. What I see now in the menu when selecting the '3 dots' icon is: Play/Play all from Here/Add to Playlist/Add to Favourites/Mark Played/Multi-Select/Download/Download to .../Edit Subtitles/Delete So none of the editing/configuring options that used to be there. Am I making any sense? PS: There is also the Manage Emby Server icon (cog in top RH corner) AND the Settings icon (head & shoulders icon) presenting identical drop-down menus, which means I seem to have lost access to all the Server Management/Setup menus. PPS: I have tried a re-install of 4.8.11.0 which produced the exact same results. Kevin

Are you sure you're logged in as admin account? That sounds like what a regular user would see.
Morthamp 2 Posted July 23, 2025 Author Posted July 23, 2025 Hi, No, I am definitely logged in using my Admin account - but is DOES feel like I'm viewing the server in a "protected" mode. Kevin
Morthamp 2 Posted July 23, 2025 Author Posted July 23, 2025 OK, you may be onto something - I logged out and tried to log back in. Emby refuses to allow me to log back in as Admin; "Invalid username or password". I am now locked out of Admin. I can happily log in using the media account I set up for general viewing. Am I right in thinking my only choice now is to SSH into the server to reset this situation? Kevin
Solution GrimReaper 4739 Posted July 23, 2025 Solution Posted July 23, 2025 (edited) Have you tried going through Forgot Password procedure? Alternatively, you can find policy.xml in that particular user's folder under [server-programdata-folder]\config\users\xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and check if <IsAdministrator> tag set to "true". Yes, you'd need to SSH into your NAS. Edited July 23, 2025 by GrimReaper
Morthamp 2 Posted July 23, 2025 Author Posted July 23, 2025 GrimReaper, Thank you, the problem is now solved! I (painfully) followed the password reset process and eventually managed to log back in as Admin. This then enabled the menu optiopns I was missing, and I now have access to the server setup menus. This was all a bit wierd, as Emby told me I was logged in to the Admin account, but it behaved as if it was in user access mode. I guess logging out allowed it to sort out the issue by locking me out! Anyway, problem solved. Thanks again! Kevin 1 1
