huangsc 1 Posted July 20, 2025 Posted July 20, 2025 (edited) Synology Model:DS920 emby version:4.8.8.0 Error message: The SSL connection could not be established, see inner exception. embyserver.txt Edited July 20, 2025 by huangsc
huangsc 1 Posted July 22, 2025 Author Posted July 22, 2025 There is no VPN set up in Synology. Only the IP addresses corresponding to api.themoviedb.org and image.tmdb.org are set up in the host.
Luke 42077 Posted July 22, 2025 Posted July 22, 2025 Quote Only the IP addresses corresponding to api.themoviedb.org and image.tmdb.org are set up in the host. How exactly?

I am not sure whether resetting emby will work, such as completely uninstalling and reinstalling it. I have tried uninstalling emby in Synology and reinstalling it, but my data is still there and has not been initialized.
Luke 42077 Posted July 23, 2025 Posted July 23, 2025 If the server can't reach Tmdb then how would resetting it help? But if you want to do that, you can delete the server data folder: Emby Server Data Folder You can also try refreshing the metadata on existing content.

I have tried pinging api.themoviedb.org and image.tmdb.org before, and both are working. I have refreshed the metadata several times but it didn't work. I want to confirm whether it is because of the problem of accessing tmdb, or because the image has been downloaded locally but cannot be displayed, or because of the certificate or other configuration issues.

If I failed to connect to Tmdb before, the poster of this movie would be completely black, and there would be no icon showing a broken image in the upper left corner. So I suspect that this is not the reason for the connection failure, but I am not sure, so I would like to ask how to solve it.
Solution Luke 42077 Posted July 24, 2025 Solution Posted July 24, 2025 17 hours ago, huangsc said: I want to confirm whether it is because of the problem of accessing tmdb, This is the problem. Even though you can ping it from a terminal, you have something blocking the emby server process from reaching it.

No, there would be the broken image icon. It's trying to display an image, but can't.
Luke 42077 Posted July 24, 2025 Posted July 24, 2025 Quote so I would like to ask how to solve it. The answer to this is specific to your environment. Did you find anything? Typical causes of this are firewall, security software, or VPN.
huangsc 1 Posted August 23, 2025 Author Posted August 23, 2025 It was indeed a problem connecting to tmdb. After I changed it to a usable IP address, I could get the picture normally. 1
